This a very simple poll. Do you think Americans will be allowed to own a firearm in 50 years? Dale   Ps there is no closing date on the voting so I feel it would be a good sticky.

I lean that way as well. In our current state of affairs, we could be closed down rather quickly. And I'm not talking politics. We have just sold our selves out to too many countries. Were in a hole and they are the only thing keeping us afloat. Plus we have lost our moral center and spend to much time fight each other to come together and escape the hole we have created.

I believe that if we are allowed to own them it will be VARY difficult and finding a place to use them will be vary hard to find, as the world population grows and the GIVING AWAY of the USA to whoever wants to come here and claim to have RIGHTS I believe it will cause those of us that own land to quit trying to supply people with food and a means of employment, I for one have sold ALL my cattle and I am only allowing some of the land to be harvested for hay, I wont be around in another 50 years and have expressed my concerns to our children and told them to prepare for themselves and not to wait too long to do so.   JIM

If you guys keep thinking that way and already giving up like it seems you have, it will happen. But if you say hell no, I am going to keep my guns, we will still have guns 50 years from now.

I can't believe I am even seeing this. I know I will be fighting to save our gun right, even if I will not be here to enjoy them.

If the U.S. even exists in 50 years, it will not be the U.S. that we know.  There will be fewer rights, and more control.  Laws will limit religious freedom for Christians, who will be considered intolerant.  Guns will be severely limited as in England, or worse.  Individual freedom will be severely limited, with such excuses as "the greater good" being given to limit individual freedom.  Individual electronic identification will be used to track our movements and purchases, and "suspect" individuals will be tracked.  Perversion will abound and will be protected by law.

Giving up? I am actually getting more active. I drove 6 hours each way to go to Louisville last weekend to show support in my beliefs to own firearms

I agree with Bill! There is no way America can survive as a free Republic.
I think those of us that get our news from the WWW, and not the Government dictated mainstream media can see our Great country being transformed into a third world nation.

Nothing short of another revolution could change it, and in our feminized culture, don't look for that to happen!

I can't even imagine our country not being around in 50 years. Unless there was some kind of nuclear war that wiped us out or a war on our soil with China. Their army is much larger than ours. I really don't even want to think about such things. Don't be fooled for a second though China is a real threat and we are the ones that made them strong. Dale

The United States will still be a country in fifty years.  There just won't be fifty States.  I see at least 25% of the States seceding from the Union and either forming another Union or aligning themselves with another country.  Gun ownership in the above 25% will still be a right.  The other 75% deserve to be enslaved for being stupid.

We have allowed this country to become what the founding fathers warned us against.  It's pretty sad that we couldn't learn from history.

On the bright side, I will be in the 25% if I live that long.

I envision a world in the VERY near future engulfed in WW III, with us, unfortunately, on the losing end.  I think that it'll start over oil, the the US will be scapegoated by our enemies, and that our economy will collapse into ruin because of the loss of manufacturing expertise and the means of production.

We are a capitalist nation with no capital, only money that is increasingly leveraged, thus, at risk.  A true capitalist knows that it is the means of production that is important, not money.  If a country can produce, it survives.  Read your history books post industrial revolution, even from the commie perspective, the healthiest economies over the long haul are the manufacturing ones.

I am alarmed at the thought that the USA will not exist in 50 years.
I would be very interested in the response along with the age of the person as they post. My thought is that those who believe they will not be here in 50 years also believe the USA will not. Those who still have 50+ years left believe the USA will still be here, quite possibly as the younger have not experienced the changes the older folks have. Then again maybe the old farts are just getting cranky as they age... I see some of thet in myself! OK OK you old farts take a joke. :)

I see what they are teaching my kid in school, tolerance over fighting in personal beliefs. I personally do not believe in letting someone come to our great country and slowly try to change our country into something like the country they left. I firmly believe we should ALL speak English and as a country believe in God!

I voted "no". As to whether the US will be here in fifty years I can't say. I certainly hope so for the sake of my grandchildren and greatgrandchilden. Will it be the US of today? No, it will not. Anglos will be a definite minority, it will be a socialist state and every one will depend on the government to take care of them.

Gun ownership? No. Why? see the thread "What is the provocation?" Anti-gunners are united, we are not. We are not interested in presenting a united, solid front to combat the forces we face. All we want to do is argue, condemn, and call each other names. We have no chance against a united group.

Too many people own guns to collect them all. Have you noticed, even the anti gun people own guns, they just think their better than everyone else. I don't see the federal government as it is now though. Not even sure some state governments will make it,(Kalifornia for one) Not only an energy war headed our way, but food as well.  Not a bed of roses for sure.  gypsyman

Don't forget water.  The huge aquifer under Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and parts of Texas and Colorado is going to be gone in 30 years at the current rate of consumption.  It isn't refilling it's self fast enough to meet the demands of a growing population and crop irrigation.

I see very dark days ahead, and I'll be around 50 years from now, God willing.  I can't speak to gun ownership being allowable.... I know I'll still have (at least some) of mine.

America has been through a lot, wars, depressions, social changes etc. and we're still here.  We face some daunting challenges/opportunities ahead, but I believe we'll still be here in 50 years. I believe gun ownership will still be allowed. Seems to me that the general public is more in tune with the advantages of gun ownership than it was 15 years ago. As a country we may not always make the right decision the first time but we have a record of correcting our mistakes.
To go out on a limb, I'm making the following prediction. In 50 years Chelsea Clinton will be president and a member of the NRA ;)

That's quite a limb.

I voted yes but I think it will have a lot to do with reducing the violence in urban areas. The worse the cities are the more they clamor for gun control. Kind of backward logic.
