Be it good or bad, can ya'll that have em, tell the Coug a story about this critter blaster. Considering one in 308, maybeso even 7mm-08

How do they do in accuracy & recoil. Easy to carry?

i have a m7 ss 7-08. leupold 3x9 compact in leupold mounts. tweaked trigger, cryoed barrel, and bedded factory stock.

as for hunting, it's my favorite tool to use. light weight, quick pointing, and not a whole lot of barrel to get snagged. 7-08 with 140's more than enough for whitetails. a roll of camo tape does wonders to eliminate the flash of the ss. i can carry it by the pistol grip straight down and not have it dragging, and bring it up to shoulder quickly with little effort. i can't say that for my la bdl's.

as for bench behavior, quite rude. shot most handloads with various bullets of the 139/140 sub 2 inch at 100. lots of screwing around and combinations found a load that got down to an inch for 5 shots. recoil not a problem but it does jump a bit more. have to hold down on the forestock to get it to shoot it's best. normally i don't touch the forestock when shooting from the bench. no problem with freehand or field support shooting, just rude on the bench.

over all great gun, great caliber for it's intended use. no complaints! dh

As mentioned to you in the thread on the 7-08 I had one in that caliber. Loved it but hate plastic stocks in general. RP factory ammo shot quite well in mine always coming in around an inch. Some times less some times a fraction over. First hand load I tried gave me a first three shot group of 3/8". Load development ended rat there. I used that load or factory ammo rest of time I had it.

I prefer laminated wood stocks so traded it for the R700 LSS Mtn. rifle in 7-08. I do love and much prefer it to the Model 7 only because of the difference in stocks. I did get a 22" barrel in the exchange and now can no longer carry it by the grip like Dutch mentioned he does his Model 7. A small trade off in my opinion for the laminated stock however.

Remington, Winchester, Browning, Savage, etc. All of their "Synthetic" stocks are junk. And GB is right, they are nothing more than "plastic."

I recently changed my BDL SS plastic stock for a H-S Precision stock (which is what my Senderos have). It's a great stock, a true "Synthetic" as it consists of fiberglass and kevlar, and an aluminum bedding block. I understand that the police and military use these stocks in their long range sniper rifles.

The only think that I still do not like about synthetic stocks (even real synthetic stocks like McMillan and H-S Precision) is that they do not feel as sturdy as laminated wood. Yes, I understand that laminated wood is a hundred times better than normal wood because it doesn't warp nearly as much in rain and temperature changes, and that it is still not as great in that category as synthetics, but laminated stocks just feel better in my hands. I have a Tikka Laminated Stainless and I just love the way she moves!

I got laminated on the Ruger Hornet, and another in a No1 ss 45-70 jobbie. I like the way the stocks look, but I find I have to wipe em hard dry on account of they feel slippery. They don't checker laminates.

Me I don't mind the rubber, plastic, aramid, whatever stocks on account of I'm always ina whip stick and berry patches digging critters out. Now a primo piece of circasian would get ripped an scratched in this stuff, an I'd cry :cry:

I think that they DO checker laminates. I was at Bass Pro last month and held a Remington Mountain LSS. If memory serves me correct, I think that it was checkered. Also, I think that my Tikka laminated is also checkered. Heck, now I have to go home and "check" it out. :-D

Yes Remington checkers them. Both of my LSS Mtn. Rifles are checkered.

I love mine even though the stock is plastic. Its in 260 Rem and wears a 6X42mm matte Leupold and a Harris bipod. It shoots most handloads around 1/2 to 3/4 inches a 100 yrds
