I received a call!
« on: May 20, 2008, 03:13:47 PM »
For the last year and a half the neighbor started hanging around since has taken a liking to guns. He has a friend or two that will come over once in a while as well. One of them bought a Ruger M77VT in 220 Swift from me and likes it but last winter started bugging me to sell him my XP-100 in 221 Fireball. That is a handgun I am not willing to sell. I told him I would find one from him before woodchuck season. A few months ago we located one and brought it home. It was in nice condition with the factory plastic stock, I did let him talk me out of my Fajen stock and bipod. The last couple of months I have loaded shells and mounted a scope for him and watched him shoot at 40 yards first then 100 yards.
Oh yea... I mentioned a phone call.
I got a call from him this evening all excited as he hit a woodchuck at over 150 yards! Nice distance for this area plus his first kill with a handgun and the 221 Fireball.
I am darn glad I did not let him talk me out of My 221!

Good Read!
Nothing like breaking new people in and having your own small circle of friends for the hunting and shooting.
One word of caution for you regarding the friends, friends. Even though I live in a smaller (doors unlocked mentality) low crime community, I do not allow many people
Other than the closer, older friends access to my Reloading room which also houses the gun vaults. Perhaps this is paranoia or maybe just common sense.

Ditto the common sense.   Only my closest friends that know I have guns also know where I live.   They are welcome at my abode anytime, but they know better than to bring a stranger (to me) along in tow.   New acquaintances in the shooting sports are limited to "on site" ONLY (the range- hunting fields) and must prove to me that they can be trusted before they would ever be considered as a possible guest at my home.   No one in my neighborhood knows I have guns.  That's what the real world has become in this country.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I guess I`m lucky I live where I do. In the summer you hear gun shots every Sat. and Sun. from several different directions. Some times people will stop in when your shooting just to see what your shooting or to show you a new gun they got. I lost 30 guns in a fire, about 1/2 of what I had, so when I built my new house I took 10 ft off the back of the garage and built a vault. It 10 ft. x 20 ft with 8 in thick walls with re-bare and a Mosler vault door. Almost everyone in this area has at least 1 gun in their house.

I do keep my guns that are at the office in a safe that is lagged to the concrete floor. In my mind this will slow the criminals not keep the guns from being stolen.
I have shooting ranges at my office where I can shoot from 40 yards to 300.
My neighbors know I own guns and shoot. It is not uncommon for one or two of them to come up to me after church on Sunday morning and ask me what I was shooting a particular day last week.
