12 volt capstan winch
« on: May 21, 2008, 04:25:54 AM »
Has anyone ever seen a 12 volt capstan winch.  It's the kind of winch you see on ships and kind of looks like an hour glass.  I have two bum shoulders and cant do long drags.  My thought is to build a capstan winch that I can put into my hitch receiver then connect it to my trailer light socket.  Turn on you parking lights and you have power.  A capstan winch has the advantage in that you can use any and all the rope you wasn't and can tie tropes together without a problem.

wow... old post but I just happened on it today.  I was looking at some chain-saw powered capstan winches on line yesterday.  I think they were made by Sampson or Simpson.  Run off a chain saw.  2500 pound pull.  Hope you see this...

I've used these chainsaw capstains in construction in Alaska and must say I highly approve of them.  They work.  Also, these capstains due Political Correctness are now called a Presidential Solution.
