7.62x39 with cast bullets

Now that I have a 7.62x39 HANDI, and lots of once fired brass, I am interested in loading a 180 grain cast bullet to about 1600 fps.
Anybody tried this?
All the load data I can find stops at 150 grain.

if it is not a spitzer forget it. it will engage the rifling before the case is chambered.  see "MY AK BLEW UP" in another part of GBO

The Lyman Cast Bullet manual shows data for 151gr, 169gr and 208gr cast bullets for Unique and 2400, in addition it has 208gr data for IMR4227

Loadswap has 180gr jacketed data.

You might PM Robert about his 7.62x39 Handi project, he was working on "Whisper" loads a couple years ago, he may have something else that he tried.

As long as the case chambers properly you should be able to use flat point bullets with no problems.  Just because a flat point bullets caused problems in an AK, doesn't mean that it would also be a problem in your handi.

What edition of the manual do you have? I have third edition, and can't find any info in it.

I think that he may have looked at the 7.62 Russian (7.62 x 54R) on accident.  Lyman's cast bullet third has loads with the bullets and powders that he mentioned.

Sorry Alan, Chris is right, my mistake, the 3rd edition lists the 7.62x54R as the 7.62 Russian.
