Anybody Else Been Banned by Carl the Impailer?
« on: July 20, 2003, 01:58:48 PM »
I see that TMMH is still not accepting new members.  I'm an old member...once removed :-D

But it's still a little annoying that new people aren't welcome there.  Some of the boards are a little slow when it comes to traditional equipment, as it seems modern inlines are more often discussed lately.  I'm a ball and patch man with a few drams of shot thrown in.  Anyone else want to discuss squinting through the smoke to see if it's "meat or miss?"

Never banned, but left the Hide due to dissatisfaction with the holier than thou attitude that was prevlant on that site, and feeling that they were promoting a New York city cult around an individual rather than an open discussion on the topics.

I've gone through there, anytime you get a few people trying to dominate a board with their own agenda, it slowly withers away.  As far as ML'rs go, it's ussually guys pushing the subject of traditional vs Modern, either way it's alot of BS to folks that just want to talk guns and hunting.  good thing the internet is a big place.

I used to post there.  I never was booted from the Hide, just got disgusted with the limited membership etc. and it seemed way too hard to get on and too easy to get booted off.  Kind of like a wealthy country club.

However, I agree most other boards are sabot-this and scope-that.  It just ain't much fun for us to scroll through a message board and only find one or two threads pertaining to something traditional.  The TMMH, however, offers many threads all pertaining to something traditional.

The TMMH is loaded with opinionated people, however the board itself is NOT about pushing a traditional vs. modern agenda.  In fact if you bring up the arguement you get booted (or your thread gets deleted).   It's simply about narrowing the topic.  Just like this place.  It's all about outdoor sports, but each board is about a narrower topic.  Suppose Greybeard Outdoors were to offer two boards one for modern ML'ing and one for traditional?  It's just a way of sorting the threads to please the readers.

Carl Semencic is a guy from New York City who likes to use traditional muzzle loaders.  He started a messageboard and decided to limit it strictly to traditional muzzle loading because that's what he is interested in and he maintained the board as an amateur.  He doesn't run a board for modern muzzle loaders because managing a board is a lot of work, he has no interest in in-lines so he would never read such a board.  Why maintain a board you're never going to read, and you'll never make money from?

The TMMH is Carl's muzzle loading board, er, the board started by Carl, I believe he merely posts now.  The rules are fairly narrow.  No threads about sabots, scopes, in-lines, or the in-line vs. traditional debate.

I'm another ex TMMHer.
While the topics on TMMH are sometimes of interest, Carl's attitude reeks.
He's got his own little fiefdom.
There is another site where traditional m/ling is discussed, although selling/ trading items is not permitted.
I applaude Graybeard for his tolerance on this forum/site.

What most bothers me is the way the other board members fawn and lick the back of his hand to keep from losing their opportunity to be a member of such an elite little club.  Perhaps as a rite of joining, one should kiss his ring rather than his butt.  I'd like to tell him how I feel...but I was banned some time ago

Add me to the list. I wasn't banned but left before I was. It seems on HIS forum, you can't have an honest job (if it's a lower paying job) without falling under his scrutiny.

BTW, I don't know if I can post any links to other forums here without getting into trouble. But if anyone wants to meet some other ex-members, send me and email and I'll give you a few links. If the moderator says it's ok, I'll post them here.

I have never been a member of Carl's board but did lurk there on occassion, and was totally put off by the attitude there. What I like about this site is that people don't have any problem with telling you up front what they have seen and done as opposed to what they have read or heard about. I like to hear second hand info, but don't want it preached like gospel. And now I don't have to scroll thru all that inline stuff If I don't want to. Thanks Graybeard!

If it goes bang, it is good.  Doesn't matter if it's an expensive custom gun or hacked cva, as long as the owner is happy that is all that should matter.  As for this guy you folks are talking about, my guess is his friends are only around as long as the money is.

I for one truly enjoy TMML, and if you obey the rules he has set up you should have no problem there. Yes Carl is highly oppionnated, its his board, he has that right. But there is also an awful lot of good information on his board and would trully miss it if it weren't there.

:agree:    Agree fully with Rich - there is a lot of good information passed along on The Hide.   Never had a problem there and most of the palaver's are right on topic.

"Opinionated?"   Ever met a board owner who wasn't???  :P

Howdy! I'm one of the First To Be Banned from the Hide. Long ago I had a problem with the way the site functioned, literally I mean. It got wierd when I tried to view the board, and wierder when I tried to post.

I mentioned it on the board and was told it wasn't so (this was an actual programing thing, not related to posting content or anything like that). Then another poster responded and stated that he had the same problems with the site. One of Carl's moderators got testy about it and stated that I could not possibly be having such a problem. I pointed out that at least one other was having the same problem and BOOM....I was banned.

I don't miss the place, but I do miss some of the freinds I had there. I won't even go back to lurk though, no point in picking scabs offin old wounds. I figure if they's that freakin oversensitive, it's no plce fer a nasty ol' codger like me ennyways! 'S why I was glad to find a couple of old freinds from there, at this site!

I was banned Friday.  I signed up Thursday and got my userid and password Friday morning.  I was instructed to immediately post some info about myself.  I wrote that I am new to muzzleloaders and I listed the guns that I own.  My list contained 2 encores in it.  Next thing I know, my post is deleted and I recieved an email telling me I was no longer allowed because I discussed modern MLers.  Apparently just mentioning that you own a modern gun is poision on that site.

If your new to muzzle loaders and own 2 encore why are you posting at ANY "traditional ML" site?? Don't go "doggin" the Hyde if yer an in-line shooter, the rules are easy to read,,,simple,,just read.

Don't get me wrong,,welcome to bp arms,,it's fun,,but, even this site has different schools,!!!!

You "IMPAILED" yourself,,Carl had nothing to do with it,,,,,,

Because someone wants to learn and is stating their frame of reference and where they are coming from, that should not be any reason to be horified that your minons will be corupted or somehow perverted to non-traditional ways.

Those folk there are so hung up on eating period correct garbage that is is funny to see the absurd steps they take in an attempt to become period correct and live the role for the moment.

I got no problem with them doing it and if they don't want to come out of the rain when seams are leaking because they enjoy it, well so much for them.  Don't think it's too terribly intelligent for them today, but the folks back then didn't have choices on their technology we have today, and their lifespan showed it.

But to state the truth and say where you are coming from and wanting to learn, and have that happen, that's just not right!

I said my list contains 2 encores.  The list also has 1 TC 54 Hawken, 1 TC 45 Seneca, and 1 TC Black Mountain Mag 12 gauge.  I was there to discuss trad equipment.  I only mentioned my collection of MLs.  I wan't going to discuss the encores there.

gurtie,

I honestly mean no offense, but in the eyes of some purists. the T/C's aren't really considered really that much of a traditional rifle.  And when you write "mountain mag", I would bet that you raised a few hackles.

Some places prefer to exist on the far side of the line and not mess with those they would consider riding the fence.

Once again, I mean no offense, there are various sites for different degrees of dedication.  I, myself, would never eat a goldfish just to get into a fraternity.  Nor would I change my preference for muzzleloaders just to get onto a certain site.
