Caught some Smallies yesterday!
« on: May 25, 2008, 03:57:56 PM »
Well, the weather gave us just enough of a window to get out and do some wading for smallmouth, and I finally had time to take advantage of it.  Went to the Meramec up around Cuba with my buddies and boy was that water COLD!  Was a bit of a slow start, but when we finally got to catching them we had pretty good luck.  I caught one that was probably 2 1/2 pounds, one that was about two pounds, and about 3 smaller ones along with a largemouth and a tiny little sunfish.  Bait was white rooster tails.  My buddies both did pretty good too.

Anybody else been out on the rivers yet?

I have caught a number of smallies on the rivers in WI. Been casting a 1/4 oz jig with a 3" twister tail, red in color. Can cast them a mile with 6# fire line. Whats a Rooster tail?

An in-line spinner just like a mepp's.  I use the 1/4th oz ones on 6 lb line and they do go pretty far.
