Hello All.
« on: May 26, 2008, 07:26:14 AM »
New to here. I was directed over here because Im looking to get a H&R. Ive heard good things about the H&R Hornets. Allot cheaper than the other models available. All Im finding from H&R in Hornet has sights. Id like a clean barrel, but will take what I can get. What are my options to get a clean barrel Hornet? Reading back on posts here Ive learned you can get extra barrels for your H&R. Not allot of people know this. A question about that is why do they have to be factory fitted? I see folks selling barrels on here, but without being fitted wont there be issues? If NEF/H&R could do away with the factory fit issue I think they could outsell the T/C rifles. I havent heard allot of accuracy issues with the H&R rifles like I do about the T/C rifles.

You can remove the sights they are held on by a couple of screws....They have to be fitted at the factory because they aren't built to the same tolerances as the T/C so the barrels don't fit exactly perfect...They have to remove a little metal from the hinge to get a perfect fit...

Welcome broknaero! Unfortunately the 22 Hornet has been discontinued, the website shows it's still available unless H&R/Marlin changed their collective mind.  It's listed as an accessory barrel which may still exist, but the slow movers like the Superlight are being discontinued, so I dunno if it will continue to be available as an acc barrel. Spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky and you'll find more answers than you have questions for including how to fit your own barrel.  ;)

Wow, Im learning more about these rifles than I knew existed. If the Hornet is unavailable I may just get a rifle in another caliber I could use for deer/bear and just send it in to get a hornet barrel fitted. Im gonna keep reading.

Thanks guys

Hi Brokenaero,  If you want a Handi for deer and bear, take a look at the .45-70 (my favorite), the .30-06, .308.  There's lots  of others out there too, .30-30, .35 Whelen (used) .35 Rem. to mention a couple.  Also the whole 6 and 7 mm clan. (.243, .270, 7mm-08 etc.). Also the large pistol calibers. Welcome, enjoy.  You'll love your Handi, and then you'll be in the same boat with the rest of us Handiholics.  You're on dangerous ground, you're already talking about an extra barrel.  I hope you jump in with both feet.  Welcome. Pete
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.
