How many of us trap
« on: May 27, 2008, 05:26:21 PM »
looking for a few trappers to discuss pa trapping.  Let me pick your brain.  Gas prices have curtailed my hunting marathons but I have great access to public land close by and figure it is still cheap to use good old leg power but the deer #'ers are down and I always loved running my old mans muskrat line with him.  So until they legalize a throwing spear I am going to make trapping my new frontier.

I did until the last license increase.  The fur prices were so low that it was hardly worth doing.  I may get back into it later.  I only trapped coon.

I have to buy the lic anyway to hunt fox and coon so trapping is just utilizing the lic completely for me.  there are enough coon and fox around me to make it interesting. I hope anyway.

My trapping has been nothing too serious and mostly for things around the home. I would be willing to take on the role of "sidekick" in my area if anyone was looking for one

I don't even trap anymore but I always welcome the chance to teach somebody something new.  I hope you find someone to mentor you.  I don't think my wife would appreciate me spending time with someones "HOT Sister" anyway.

More in the mood for a partner , checking traps everyday would be a burden on me , I have tried to enlist some friends for this task , but I know my friends can be unreliable in these type of things

I had my hip resurfaced a little over a year ago, it is a miracle procedure by the way. I will be able to get back to trapping again. I took the cable restraint course and caught a coyote in the first set, the first day I tried it. I will set some mink traps and take a few coon, I will wait on the fox and coyote until the 1st of the year and set snares for them. It is good to be back. Shotgunner

I trap as much as I can. It's a pain sometimes with work.Alot of times I can only set on weekends. This year I'm thinking of taking some time off in Nov. for trapping and just hunt deer on sat.I trap everything in season,I haven't been able to catch a coyote yet but I'm feeling lucky this year.We have some in my area but mostly fox.

I've never trapped in my life. But now that I have some time so at the end of July I've signed up for the cable restraint class. I plan on starting out small....a few around my house as I have some coon's that like to nest in a small wood lot behind me. Usually I whack 'em with my 22 mag. I also have an easy access to a small "water run" area that stretches about 500 yards. I've called in and shot fox along this run and I know coyotes hunt this area. So, I'll set a few here as well.
