Will Browning reburbish a 1929 Auto-5 shotgun ?
« on: May 28, 2008, 08:47:43 AM »
If I wanted Browning to refurbish a 1929 Auto-5 shotgun. would they do it ?   Talking about re- bluing , replacement of both stocks , etc.  basically an overhaul of the whole shotgun.

I don't know about Browning but there are gun smiths that will do a nice job and if I had to bet in a reasonable time .
I had to send a new O/U back and after 6 mos. it was returned with a broken stock so after another trip back and a year in time i got to shoot my gun !
You would have better control over wood used etc. and most GOOD local smiths see each job they turn out as advertising there work and want it right !

And yes its sour grapes to a point but true ! The problem with the O/U the factory workers had packed so much grease in the gun the hammers could not reset ( at least that's the story I got ).
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I would check Midwayusa.com & Brownells for replacement stocks & find a local quality operation for the reblue job. I had some reblue done around here after a relative had a fire. The cost was $200 per shotgun. They we higher $ O/U's. I did some of the lower cost guns myself with the home cold reblue but the hot works better. If you were to send it off to Browning for a complete makeover I think the cost would be high. If it is part of the family jewels maybe it is worth it.

You could do a call to Browning & see what they say.

I would contact these folks as they seem to specialise on the Browning Auto Five  ;) I got new springs in an overhaul kit from them for my 1950's Auto Five.:-
