Summer beaver trapping
« on: May 28, 2008, 02:33:48 PM »
Tom, I just read your article in the trapper & predator caller. It was a very entertaining and a good read!

I'm going to trap a pond for nuisance beaver. Do I need to change my sets for summer compared to winter/spring?
I'm planning on using caster mounds guarded by snares/330's. Does anyone know if I'm on the right track with caster mounds? I'm sure they would work all year round.

I have a lot of ADC customers that use that set all summer long. Beaver are just as territorial now as other times--If I trapped summer beaver, I would use the exact set you have mentioned. Set a bunch of traps the first night, and smack them before they know whats going on.

Tom when doing ADC summer beaver trapping. You have to set close to the lodge area or at least on the pond right. Do you have to sneaky about setting traps ?

For the most part, beaver movement ,on a big scale, will have stopped. Some 2 year olds are still looking for a home, but the original colonies are back down to the adults, yearlings and newborns.
They will stay pretty close to home,so traps have to be set closer to the animals.
I would make as little racket as possible, get in set up, and get out.
