Anyone polish their brass frames?
« on: June 01, 2008, 07:08:56 AM »
Does anyone like to keep their brass backstrap/frames all polished on their cap and ball guns?  I like the look of the darkened brass patina, so I don't polish them, I have noticed in photos of original antiques that they leave them darkened too, but they do come from the factory all shiny and bright.

Thanks.

A pimped gun is actually kind of annoying in sunlight.  Bright, shining brass makes an attractive showcase display, though, and probably helps to sell guns.

Hey Chris  :) :
Old brass takes quite a bit of effort to clean up, but if you have some 'flitz' barrel polish laying around, it'll turn that old color into mirror bright new condition as fast as you can put it on and buff it off.   Works on silver too.

Enjoy your rights to keep and bear arms.

I like the look of unbuffed brass, gives the gun an authentic look, but it probably would make sense to polish it up for resale if I wanted to sell.
