Digital Hearing Inserts
« on: June 02, 2008, 04:38:08 PM »
Does anyone have sufficient experience with the use of digital hearing "Muffs" versus digital hearing "Inserts" to do a brief analysis for me.  I do not mind spending the extra money for quality inserts if the difference is such that I will gain a significant increase in both hearing and hearing quality over that of digital hearing muffs.  I welcome hearing about your experience with both of these types of hearing enhancers/protectors.

Additionally, please recommend specific manufacturers and models that you have found desirable.

Thanks and best regards,

JHT

I have a lot of hearing loss plus constant ringing in both ears.  I have had dozens of hearing test since the late 60's when I was first diagnosed.  My hearing loss is in the higher frequencies.  I have what is called nerve deafness.  Fifteen years ago I bought a pair of inside the canal digital hearing aids that were $4000.  They came with a money back guarantee.  I got my money back.  If you have nerve deafness as I do, no amount of amplification will help.  At frequencies above 4000 cycles, an increase in volume will eventually cause acute pain in my ears before I can hear the tone.

Get a free hearing test to see if you have a hearing problem.  I suppose that if your hearing is perfect, the amplification of the inserts would help you hear things you might not otherwise hear.  In my case, it would be of very little value.
