who does prop work , rebuilding/fixing?
« on: June 05, 2008, 12:23:40 PM »
This morning I ran over a board in the water , boat ran fine and thought all was good but after taking the boat out of the water , I seen I got 2 bent blades , one more than the other. Not major but curling at the ends some.
I have heard there are people out there who do repair work "fixing chips, etc"
Any ideas on who?
And I ASSUME the boat is ok to use as is for awhile????? I did not notice any vibrations , etc etc , so would I be ok running it as is for awhile or could I hurt something?
I heard they can shake badly but it was not doing anything I could notice , except my speed was 2 m.p.h less than normal

I've straightened a lot of aluminum props out, most from hitting rocks, a little heat from a propane torch, use a hammer on a piece of hardwood on the bent edge with the blade on a solid flat surface (like an anvil), touch it up with a file to clean up any edges and it may be good as new. If not and it's really bad to begin with, it becomes a spare, but minor damage is easily fixed.

Could you post pics. It would be easy for me to tell you if you could repair it or not. If I were looking to upgrade I would go with a Stainless Steel Prop and keep this one for backup as Tim said if it is in good shape.

I keep the big boat in a guys yard at the lake so taking pics would have to wait but it seems like its ok now anyhow , I told a guy about this last night and he said he would swing by and take a look at it today when he went down , I have not seen it yet but he said he used a wooden mallet and a block of would and fixed it , he said he has had worse than mine and as long at I didn't bust any pieces off I really didn't have to worry about it becoming unbalanced and causing problems and he said it would've even been ok to keep running like it was , I did not know he was going to fix it , guess I am just happy he didn't bust it

Sounds good. As long as it is still in one peice and isn't all too bad you don't have much to worry about.
