Who's great idea was it to make that stuff so smelly and sweet?  Man...I am lucky to have gotten out with only one sting.  Sure love this 58 cal Springfeild though.

Ain't them ol' rifle-muskets fun, though? Smoke an' fire an' BOOM! an' you can hit what ya shoot at! Can't ask for much better!

If old guns could speak....what a war?...brother fighting brother, no telling which side one of these originals was on.  Captured muskets were used by either side.  One of the great  tragedies that EVER befell this nation.

Robert

Is that one of those banded rifles? I familiar with the Zouave ... does it have a couple of bands around the barrel?

Do they come off easy?... leave a mark on the barrel finish?

That 58 Zouave has interested me for many years. What kind of store-bought loads do these rifles like?

Had a modern-made Zouave (Remington M1863) many years ago. Sure was pretty. The bands come off if you use some kinda punch-type tool to push in the band retaining spring into the stock to release it. Then they just slide off. Barrel don't stay on too good, then, o' course.

Dang! Fergit my head if it weren't fastened on! The "duty" charge from CW days, was 60 gr. FFg under a big ol' Minnie ball.
