I've been wanting a .45. My money situation is not where I expected it to be, so....I need opinions. I work with a guy who has a Firestorm Compact .45 he will sell. It's the 1911 type with the 4" barrel. I looked at it yesterday and it seems OK. It's basically new; he says he's only shot about a box of rounds through it. He's had it for a while, but didn't shoot it after his wife bought him a Kimber. I can't find out much about them, but what little I've read says they are OK. He wants $250 for it. I'll check book value when I get a chance. I want the gun for general fun and to carry when I go on walks where I live. Biggest danger is illegals (I'm less than a mile from the border), next comes dogs running loose. There are lots of coyotes around, but they're a tad shy because people around here shoot them when they see them. I don't suppose Javelinas are very dangerous, but I've seen big cat tracks (mountain lion, I'm guessing).
Anyway, I can get this for $250 or less, or I can wait and get a used 6" GP100 that another guy may sell me for about $100 more than the .45. The GP will be kind of a pain to carry. It's one of the older models with the short shroud and a heavy barrel. It's a heavy gun.
Thoughts on this?
