Ruger LCP 380?
« on: June 07, 2008, 10:03:56 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has one yet?  If so, how does it shoot and how do you like it?  Any comments about the size and carrying aspects? Thanks

I've had one for several weeks that I bought to replace the Keltec 32 that I carried daily for several years. Though I have not shot it a great deal it has not once failed to fire and cycle with several bands and styles of ammo. So far I am extremely happy with it, for what it is, that being any gun is better than no gun. It appears to be a step up in craftsmanship from Keltec, and so far in reliability based on my experience. I'm also more confident with a .380 over a .32. Two thumbs up for the LCP.

Hey sidekick, I know what you saying about no gun at all. I carry a 45 para-ordnance P10-45 during the winter.  It isa little heavy and harder to conceal in hot weather.  I ordered a ruger today like yours just for that reason.  I figure some nice hollow points should help.

The Hornady 90gr. XTP's function well so far. The LCP is an acceptable substitute for me when my Glock 36 or 1911 are not practical to carry. Ideally, I prefer one of those two, AND the LCP as a backup!

I bought one last week and went out Saturday and ran 80 rounds of assorted ammo through it. I shot Rem. 95 gr. fmj, Rem 88 gr. HP, Corbon 90 gr. HP, Federal Hydra-Shok 90gr. and PMC 90 gr. HP. All fed good except the PMC, which would not feed at all. We also did some informal penetration testing. (we shot bullets into 2 1/2 gal water jugs at seven yards.) The Corbons expanded great (we shot 2 , one lost its jacket, both went into the second jug) The Hydra-Shok put a dimple in the back of the second jug and expanded almost as much as the Corbon. I hope to do some chronograph testing this week, i'll post the results.

[Any comments about the size ]

It's the exact same size as a Walther PP, except that the front of the slide's 1/2" shorter than the PP - making it the same as a PPK.

There's a real-size pic in the new American Rifleman article on then, so you can compare it, size-ways to another gun.
