Picked up this Revelation '06 today
« on: June 07, 2008, 05:33:16 PM »
It's a Revelation brand in 30-06. It appears to be several years old. Any idea when it was made?  I think it was made by Savage. The scope is a Swift 3.5-10x44 659M. Cost for the outfit with sling and case was $250 OTD at a local pawn shop. I hope it will make a decent shooter.

A sweet piece of history there.  I'd agree it was a Savage by the looks of the barrel nut and rear mounted bolt handle.  I believe Revelation was the label used by Western Auto stores for their firearms.  Many were Mossberg's.  I've only seen a couple Savage retail store CF rifles.

Looks like a decent scope rig.  The rings seem to be Weaver steel models with the front being an extension.  Kind of expensive at todays prices.  Even with the extension on the front, the ring looks close to the objective bell.  Weaver makes a #402 extension base for Savages that will move that front ring back a bit further.  You would have to check if the 402 fits older models, such as yours.

Based on Savage's reputation as good shooting rifles, yours should be no exception.  Nice grab.   ;)

My father-in-law has one just like that. Only centerfire rifle he owns. I don't know how old it is but he has had it a long time. It is a tack driver and has taken many many whitetails.

Yep, Revelation was house brand for Western Auto Stores.  I have a Revelation 200 30-30.  In the picture below it wears a Revelation brand 2.5X scope in Weaver mounts.  This rifle was made by Marlin and follows the Marlin serial number pattern so I know it was made in 1965.  Perhaps the ser. # on your boltgun follows the Savage pattern for date of mfg.

With a better scope and no other modifications the second picture shows that this $200 gun can shoot. ;D

Nice find.  It does indeed look like a Savage.  I came close to picking up one I saw the other day that was made by Mossberg (it was a Mossberg 810 manufactured under the Revelation name).  The price was right but I already had two .30-06's and I couldn't find any information online about rebarreling such a rifle.

I do LOVE to find the Revelations, JC Higgins, Ted Williams, Western Fields, etc though.  They are generally just as good as their officially marked versions but can often be had for much less.

I rember going into the local Western Auto back in the 1960`s and seeing a fare slection of fire arms. If memory surves me I believe that got out of fire arms in the 1970`s, at least slection went down.  I could find nothing in my book, but would guess your gun was your gun was made in the 1950`s or 60`s.

The 110 hit the market in 1958. The first generation had a funky trigger and a rear sight dovetailed into a large bulge left on the barrel. Your gun looks like a  2nd generation gun. It is probably form 1963-mid 1970s. Western Auto was big in firearms until the late 70s or early 80s.
