Deer/small bear rifle
« on: June 08, 2008, 02:56:19 PM »
I've long thought of the ultimate deer, bear pig, gun.  Hunting steep hills, heavy brush, and shots out to 200 yrds I don't need a big rifle.  I've never needed to shoot twice at an animal and that's why I like NEF and TC.  Tonight I saw "Barely Legeal".  I like It.  It makes me think a 308 super lite or a standard contor 308, 18-20 in long might be the answer to my dreams.
Did NEF make a 308 super lite?
What's the litest 308 stock/barrel combo can you build?

I think with a scope about the lightest you can get a Handi is about 6.5 pounds.  This rifle has a 18 inch barrel and a youth synthedic stock with a 3-9 scope and weighs 6 1/2 pounds.  If you loose the scope you can get close to 5 1/2 pounds.  Larry

A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

The 243 is the largest bore made in the Superlight contour. The old H&R Topper 30-30 had a very similar contour, that would be as close as you'll get to a .308 in an H&R without having some custom work done. My 243 Superlight weighs 6lbs-7oz with Weaver 4x32 scope.
