Bear seen in northern Missouri
« on: June 10, 2008, 01:14:38 PM »
Just heard on the local news that a bear was sighted in Sullivan county about 4 miles west of Milan. That is about 16 miles from where I live. We have had lots of sightings of cougars and wolves but this is the firist I've heard of a bear in the area.

Yep, I think we harvested about 300 Bears last year. AR. was featured in Bear Hunting Magazine a month or so ago. They said AR was THE up & coming Bear State. Some have to be crossing the border & I know many have gone into OK. Last Weekend I met Mac11700 up at Cherokee Pass
to buy some of his reloading equip. & between Pop. Bluff & Cherokee Pass I was thinking, "you know this area could hold some Bears in time".

i would love a bear or two here but im still waiting for the turkeys. we have turkey within 10 mi of here that are rampant.wish they would show up here in more than a single digit flock.they are tasty and i love to eat them even more than a big catfish.we planted a bunch of corn now for the first time so maybe they will migrate in.saw a hen here month or so ago. my way of thinkin the bear follow the turkey.

We've got turkey as thick as flies here just south west of St. Louis.  Wouldn't mind seeing MO support a decent bear population, though I imagine that the bunny huggers in the suburbs would have a hard time deciding if they want to keep the poor pooh-bears safe from the hunters or if they want them out of their garbage... I imagine that the MDC will end up spending a few million dollars catching tame bears and releasing them into rural areas so that some landowner can shoot them when they get into the garbage there.

The news documented a cub in a tree on hwy 25 N. of Advance about 2 months ago.  Since then theres been about 4 sightings w/in about 5 miles of my house.  I dunno if its the same group of bears or not as I live about 14 miles from where the documented sighting was.  We too have been seeing an increase of cougar/panthers in the past 10 years (SEMO).  Though the MDC says we don't, there is still a $2000.00 fine if you kill one lol...
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

The conservation department verified some pictures of a young black bear south of Gallatin, Mo. this year.  It was taken I believe from a farmer's yard.
