Repair Service Stinks!
« on: June 12, 2008, 06:35:27 PM »
I bought a PT22 10 years ago and for the last 5-6 it misfires 3-5 rounds in a clip. Ive tried 3-4 different kinds of ammo and it does it with all of them. About 2 months ago I finally sent it in for the lifetime warranty. The gun came back in 6 weeks and they replaced the firing pin, transfer bar and adjusted the barrel. I took it to the range the next day and this time it would misfire 1-2 rounds a clip so i called them up and they had FedEx pick it up three weeks ago. I came back again Tuesday so back to the range yesterday and the first shot misfired. The note says they adjusted the transfer bar. Now it misfires 1-2 rounds in an 8 round clip. Tomorrow morning I'm calling them and tell them if they cant repair it so its dependable then throw it in the trash. Evidently they don't test fire the guns after the supposedly repair them. Its not the ammo as Ive tried CCI mini mags, Winchester Power Points, Remington Thunderbolts and Remington High Velocity and it misfires on all of them.

To top this all off I bought a new Taurus 85 Ultra Lite 38 Special about month ago. Brought it home and couldn't get a round into the cylinder for the machining shavings left in the chambers. I had to clean out all of them before a round would fit. Took it to the range and after 15-20 rounds the cylinder wont lock up because the latch pin was stuck in. Also the firing pin stuck out and you couldn't close the cylinder unless you held the gun pointed up. I took it back to the local gun shop and he took it apart and fix the pin, said he had to file a burr off and the return spring on the firing pin was stuck.

Next time I buy a handgun it wont be a Taurus!

Sounds like they were trying at least...

And why would you buy a gun with burrs in the chambers?  Never ever buy a gun until you have checked every aspect of it.

I have never purchased one of the Tuarus semi autos, but have had several revolvers that have gone bang everytime I pulled the trigger.

I have no complaints.

All they had to do was test fire the gun before sending it back. 20 or so .22 rounds are way cheaper than the $28.00 FedEx shipping charges they paid twice.

I didn't say it had "burrs" I said it had machining shaving in the cylinder chambers. Don't you think Taurus would clean them out before assembling the gun and why should I have to perform a QC inspection on a new gun? My Model 85 had three things wrong with it after shooting less than 50 rounds. Thats very poor quality control in my opinion.

If you had read many of my post here you'd have read of many such problems and have been in a position to expect poor quality and worse customer service from them. I'm really amazed folks continue to buy from them as poor as quality is over all and their repairs under service are at best a joke.

As to how well you looked at the new gun being a Taurus I'd have looked it over really closely but really being a Taurus I'd not have bought it to begin with considering my track record with them. However one shouldn't have to look over a new gun that well and in fact many times when I order a new one especially a Remington Rifle I don't even open the box until I get home and in some cases it might be a few days after I get it home.

With Taurus tho if you are gonna buy them you best go over it in detail prior to taking it home as they are really putting out some junk these days.

Your feeding problem is most likely the magazine. Replace it and the problem likely will go away.

GB,

I did try a different clip and still misfires.

You know quality always goes back to that old familiar saying "You get what you pay for".

I guess all my taurus revolvers must be the expensive ones...   ::)
