"Environmentalist" groups are not necessarily mercenary, there's enough idiots around against random this or that to allow any wealthy corporation to find someone to use as a grass roots group against something that threatens their income. All they have to do is donate a little money through a shill so the money trail is clouded a bit.

The biggest and wealthiest "oil companies" are Moslem nations.

We hve ALL of the oil we need, but we can't or haven't built any refineries in years. The wackos won't allow us to drill off the coast of Florida, but China & Cuba can & it goes on & on. If we don't get a groundswell now of everyday folks & scream bloody murder to the polititians, then we deserve to pay the high prices.

All I know for sure is if something is not done about fuel prices soon it is going to ruin this country in a short time. Dale

The rich oil companies (Moslem and socialist countries, actually) are buying off or funding kooks to protest oil drilling to keep down the competition. Also finding ways to support politicians.

My preoccupation with the area has nothing to do with oil. It has a lot to do with letting other people make mistakes for me to learn from:

Well, well. I was going to post a link to a news article about "no-go" zones in England, how some areas are closed to Christians. The article is no longer available. My, my. Such tolerant people.

How about this one:

http://www.strategyunit.net/2006/11/751-no-go-zones-in-france-the-gap-societies/

Politicians who encourage this sort of situation receive funding, directly or indirectly, from Moslem countries, who get their money from the oil companies they own. These politicians also get support from people educated in universities receiving funding from Moslem interests, another indirect support for stupid politics.

Preventing us from developing our own oil keeps /global/ prices high, and weakens "The Great Satan". Increasing misery in some area increases religious recruitment, and Moslems are dumb enough to think they have an inherently superior religion to shove down people's throats.

Moslems are not the only ones to want the US weakened. Anyone over 50 should remember what the hippies were chanting at the demonstrations in the 60's, "Down the System", "Revolution not Evolution", "Smash the Status Quo", etc. Those hippies were the offspring of the upper class and the upper middle class, no one else had the funds to ship the kids off somewhere out of town so they can make a mess elsewhere, and those children are now old enough to hold positions of power in the US government. Bill and Hillary Clinton being glaring examples of the breed.

Great money making pitch trying to part you from your money. This is called oil shale, the oil is not in liquid form but trapped in the pores of rock it has to be MINED and processed to release the oil will be a bit more than the cost quoted. some will flow when drilled heated water extraction can get a bit more but the barrel per day will be very low. Not an economic plan. Just ask anyone from grand junction colo about shale oil and they will laught you out of the room, that place had a huge boom and bust on this stuff years ago. The only reason our oil is so high is that your wonderful government removed all oversight from energy speculation.
the nation that forgets it defenders will itself be forgotten

Doesn't matter how large the field is.  The Dems in Congress will prevent any permit approval for drilling and there aren't enough refineries to handle more crude supply.  The Dems just denied approval for a refinery expansion in California that would triple its current output and with an upgrade to more environmentally friendly emissions too.  Go figure.

This is somewhat off topic (maybe a lot) but I'm hoping that one of the previous posters might have an answer to this question.  If we keep pumping oil out of the ground and replacing it with seawater, what will eventually happen to the core temperature of our planet?

The little electric heaters that you buy are filled with an oil of some type, not water.  This is because the oil retains heat longer than water.   So.... If we keep pumping oil out of the ground and replacing it with a poor substitute, wouldn't our planet's core temperature start dropping?  Wouldn't this lead to global cooling?

Questions.... Questions.

Please ignore if this makes no sense to you.  These questions have bugged me since the mid seventies.   ::)

Since I made my last post. I got to thinking. How is it that the core of the Earth is still molten lava after 100 billion years? Without oxygen? Dale

Well I'm no astrophysicists, however, I do know that when something is compressed it gives off heat.  The Earth's gravity due its mass, has compressed the core to the point of extreme temperatures and the crust acts like an insulting blanket.  Volcanoes act like a tube of toothpaste that is squeezed when the cap is removed and spouts this molten rock or lava.  If someone has a better explanation, please correct me as I'm just hypothethising.
