Refinishing stocks?
« on: June 14, 2008, 04:43:12 AM »
I know I'm going to get blasted for not finding it in the FAQ but didn't find it.  Whats the best way to achieve a fairly dark (walnut) finish on this light wood?  I'm doing a straight stock project for my .30/30 and I want a good finish.  I've used Tru-oil before but it looked almost blond on light wood.

I've found that Minwax wood stains do a great job and you have a ton of colors to chose from , then do the oil finish .

Just emember to prep the wood well and the longer you leave the stain on the darker it will end up .  ;)
