55gr Bergers in a 8"twist BBL
« on: June 14, 2008, 06:08:17 AM »
I wonder if my 8"twist BBL will fragment these bullets. 65gr JLK bullets 50%of them didn't make it to the 100 yard line,But 50% did I wonder why not all of the bullets wern't fragmented

Ironworker,
How fast are you driving those JLK bullets? Check the muzzle crown for damage as well. You shouldn't be able to drive those bullets fast enough to fragment, assuming we're talking about a 5.56 here.

It would depend on the velocity. I was loseing some Hornady bullets so I called them and they told me the max. twist and velocity they would take, you might just give Berger a call or e- mail them to get the correct answer.

Well I shot the 55gr Berger out of my 22-250 AI 8" twist BBL. Load was W-W 760 44grs  MV was 3,985  problem was they didn't make it to the target. Made it past the Chronny and fragmented some where out there before the 100 yard line. No problem with Sierra blitzking or Nosler BTs.  65gr JLKs I was driving them at 3,600 + some even into 3,700 FPS. No damage to crown
