I have three favorites in my Contender carbine with laminated wood and 2.5X Leupold scope.  With a 405-grain Remington JSP, 17.0 grains of BlueDot gives 1059 fps in my 16.25" ported barrel.  Accuracy is 3.5 moa.  The next is with a 300-grain Remington JHP over BlueDot for 1400 fps and 2.5 moa accuracy.  (I won't post the charge weight but it appears to be a mild load with fine accuracy.)  Both loads have low recoil and are very pleasant to shoot - either would be fine for deer at 100 yards or less.  The last is the 300-grain Remington over 53 grains of AA2015 for 1784 fps and 3 moa.  This one is stout in the recoil department...

13 grains of unique or 20 grains of 2400 with a 405 grain cast bullet.  Both are very accurate, both will kill deer cleanly if you can hit them and recoil on both is mild.
