.280 rem or 7mm-08 rem. ?
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:34:37 PM »
Which would be a better choice in a fluted stainless pro hunter barrel? Would one have less recoil than the other? Thanks!

I have an Encore in .280 and a Rem. Model 7 in 7mm-08 and love them both. The 7-08 is gonna have less recoil. The .280 isn't bad but is noticeably more than the 7-08. If you are hunting deer @ normal ranges go with the 7-08 I promise you it will be sweet! If you 've just got to have something a little "badder" (like I did) or want to go after something a little bigger than deer then the .280 will be a little more versatile. You honestly can't go wrong either way IMHO!

.280, all the way.  You can always load a .280 down to 7mm-08 levels, but never the other way around!

I bought the 7-08 barrel for my Encore three years ago. It quickly became my favorite gun. If you get one, you'll love it.

Since the Encore is a break design, get the longer cartridge. In a bolt design I prefer the shorter cartridge, but like I said in a break design, the longer one has no disadvantage. You can load down to 7-08 levels and up to near 7MM Mag levels, a very versatile round that 280. Really, you can not go wrong with either one. Good Shooting and Good Luck
