338/06 barrels
« on: June 17, 2008, 10:24:15 AM »
I am wanting to get a barrel for my old Springfield action and was wondering if any of you knew of a person that could cut a 338/06 chamber for my action or a compamy that does this ?

TIA Nim

Not trying to be a smarta%^ here but I'm confused.  ???
...wanting to get a barrel for my old Springfield action...

If you are looking for a new barrel chambered in 338/06 there are many barrel makers/suppliers out there.  I believe there is even one that is a GB sponsor.

If you are looking for someone to rebore/rerifle/rechamber your barrel there are those out there that do that as well.  The late Dick Nickel out in Washington did my 338/06 - 03A1.

So, are you looking for a barrel maker to buy a 338/06 chambered barrel, or one to rebore/etc. your barrel to 338/06?  or both?  or are you having a problem finding a barrel maker that supplies that chambering?  :-\

Have you tried

http://www.ershawbarrels.com/

Do their custom barrel build and you can see if it's what you want.  I have not used them, they were kinda considered second rate back in the day.  I understand that's changed now and from what I have heard their reptation is very good.  I'm going to have them do some stuff to, and put a 250 Sav. barrel on, my Rem M7; now in .260.

I have used Shaw barrels in two or three rifles.  They shoot well for me.  My latest was a 358 Win. barrel for a Weatherby Vanguard.

Shaw barrels can be ordered deep chambered and need only be fitted to your action and blued.  I have also used Adams & Bennett barrels in 338-06 and been pleased with the accuracy. They can be purchased thru Midway USA.  You'd need a gunsmith to chamber, fit it to the action, and blue it.
