Price of Goex FFF
« on: June 19, 2008, 12:13:30 PM »
I work near a retirement community and found a resident discarding 4 unopened, one pound cans with about 1,000 rounds of vintage 22 ammunition. what does the black powder go for today. I buy pyrodex and never use black powder.

If I was you I'd enjoy using the real black powder! I haven't bought any recently but I would guess the price to be 16 to 20 dollars for a one pound can of goex BP.

$13.99 in my neck of the woods.  If you've got a caplock or a flinter, try it out!  I think you'll be surprised at how fast the ignition is vs pyrodex.

I bought 3 cans from the local Goex distributor on Friday, it cost $11.55 a pound...

I was in Bass Pro last fall, they wanted $19.99 a pound, I let them keep it...

I sure was in my caplock.  The real stuff is cheaper, no more or less corrosive, as easy or easier to clean up, and it flat-out out performs any of the substitutes when the name of the game is side-lock muzzleloaders.

Now I've moved on to a flinter, and there is no noticeable difference in ignition speed versus the caplock when using a 4F prime and 3F as a main charge.  Reliability is as good or better in fair weather.

I've got a local source for real black, it works great, and it's about $10 cheaper per pound to shoot.  I don't see myself switching any time soon.

GOEX isn't sold in my neck of the woods.   Been using substitutes.   :-\
As of late I've been reading how so many of you like the stuff, I found some the other day while traveling across country. ;D

Got one small can of FFFg for $11.00.  8)    Already having second thoughts.   ::)   Should have gotten more just in case I find that I like it too.   ;)
