GPS carry location..??
« on: June 20, 2008, 02:35:24 PM »
When you guys are out hunting or hiking where do you carry your GPS unit?
I know it needs "clear sky" so you can't put it in a bag or pocket. What works best for everyone?

Will be using a Garmin 76CSx

Thanks

I carry my unit in an appropriate fitting camera case slung over my shoulder.  It has a small pocket in which I also carry a small notebook and extra batteries.  I have carried my gps units in this manner for a number of years and they have worked well, and protected the unit.  My standard units did not suffer a major lost of reception, and my “x” units do not miss a beat and create a continuous track.

I have a three of these cases and they cost around ten bucks at Wal Mart.  I have also installed a shield on the screen of three of my units and plan on doing it on a third unit.

I have dealt with this outfit for a number of items, I have not tried their case but if their other products are an indicator they are good.

There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!

Mine seems to work fine in my coat pocket.

a good one will work in a house so it should work in any bag or pocket.
