Winchester 1894 .30 W.C.F. Half Octagon Barrel Kit
« on: June 21, 2008, 09:09:22 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with these barrels? Is the wood ok? Is it similar to standard 94 Ranger models?

Now WHY did you have to post that link!?   :(  One klick and I'm drooling all over my keyboard!  You got to understand I haven't had a 30/30 or a M-94 since my eldest son hocked the pre-64 I got him.  This winter I bought a Marlin 30TK and a 94 made in '67.  And I was happy with a couple of 30/30's and a 94 after all these years.  Then you show up with your "And yeah, here's the link:"

hehe, sorry 'bout that.

well, the reason that i ask is that I'm planning this mod 94 project. with the new leverEvolution ammo I thought it would be nice to re-build a Ranger model to a classic lookin' 94 with a longer barrel, just to juice the 30-30 for what it's worth. Put a decent scope on it and I'll have the perfect 200 yard deer rifle. Also, with the Hornady ammo and that 26" barrel I think that the rifle will be legal for elk, caribou etc here in Norway. A standard 20" barrel with flat point bullets to not have enough power according our laws.

Really like the 30-30, my current Ranger shoots 1.5 groups at 100 meters with winchester 150grain bullets. Plus, unlike a lot of people these days, I think the 30-30 is plenty for elk and deer with shooting distances under 150-200 yards

My Marlin 336 is in right now getting the "cowboy conversion" to a 24" .30-30 octagonal barrel.  It should be back in another couple of weeks....

I keep looking at that thing and invisioning a finished rifle.  And I like what my minds eye see's!   :P

But I keep wondering.  The barrel is the heart of the rifle.  Who made these barrels?  I would be will ing to bet this isn't a factory parts kit.  The rest of the parts are inconsequential; the barrel is the key.

'Couse I just got my first M94 in years (made in '76) and I'm keeping that factory... just because I always thought everyone should own at least one '94.   :D

the barrels could be left overs or take offs from there Winchester commertive rifles. Just a thought not a fact. you can always inspect it slug it and if you don't like what you find.. send it back . the way people will fool with a handi to get it right a 94 should not be much worse. just be sure you chose a good gunsmith  he can curse what ails it 90% of the time

Just my 2 cents
