New Synthetic Stock
« on: June 23, 2008, 02:41:08 PM »
I have a Rem 700 BDL 270 and want to get a synthetic stock for it.  The wood is just too nice for hunting applications, for me anyway.  I am looking at the Hogue with the full bedding block as opposed to the one that has just the pillars.  Anyone tried this stock on their BDL?  Or does someone have another recomendation for under $250.

              Thanks

Get a standard REM 700 BDL tupperwarw stock with the R3 pad.  I have it on my BDLSS in 375HH and it's perfectly fine as is.

Appreciate the reply but I am looking for one with a block or at least pillars.  At least right now that is what I am looking for.

I put a H-S precision stock w/full length bedding block on my Rem 700 30-06 left-handed (extra $) for about $275.00 from Cabela's.  It is like the older Sendro stocks, w/o the palm swell and beaver forend. Barrel channel is opened up for bull barrels (so my sporter barrel is totally free-floating).  Nice recoil pad on the rear and the hex screws are included. Torque these down to 65 in. lbs.  Then I put my pretty piece of factory walnut in the box the H-S stock came in and stored it in my reloading room.

Thanks for the info on the H-S Precision. I have also been seeing some posts else where  on the Bell & Carlson Medalist stock.  Guess I have some more research to do.

Got the stock.  Sanded the barrel channel to completely free float the barrel.  After a few choice words I got the magazine well and floor plate on, but the bolt release would bind.  Remember this is my first stock change ever.  Pushed back some on the barreled action and the bolt release was good to go.  Checked safety function, ok.  Took it to the range and was a happy camper.  Before it was grouping 3 to 3 1/2 inches,  now just a tad over an inch.  Worst part of the ordeal was seeing the same stock on sale at Midway for $18 less than I payed for it just a day or two after I got the stock.  Here is the rifle and the first group after sighting in.

When I bought my VS years back I had all kinds of trouble with the H-S Precision stock that came originally on the rifle. Remington finally replaced it with one of their wood stcoks for the varmint rifles? Front swivel pulled completely out, and then again on the H-S replacement stock they sent me? Maybe, now they have got this problem fixed?
