I watched a movie the other night. The soldiers went back to the  dinosaur time. They could not drop a T-REX with any of the small arms they carried. I am sure some were bigger caliber than a 223 but they kept shooting till they got eaten. I have to say I lost respect for this movie at this point. I am sure the hides on the  dinosaurs were probably thicker than an Elephant these days but you think they could drop one with the number of bullets they were throwing at them. So tell me what would be a good round for a  dinosaur. This should be fun. Thanks Dale

That was the one I was thinking of when I read the question. But personally I would prefer some 20mm HE rounds from an f-18. Then if that didn't do the trick just drop a 2000 pound bomb on that sucker and watch the fire works. Also you would have a new bass lake when the crater filled with water and a little bit of stocking was done.

But see with the bomb it comes out already BBQ'ed. You just don't have to do as much work. I mean you get a good "home" cooked meal, you get to see fireworks, and I guess you could share the BBQ and the lake with family and friends (or you could just keep the lake to yourself). Either way it is like the fourth no matter what time of the year.

i would ask what size and i am going to be in a tree or etc.  There were in trunks taking shoots at running game.  For a TR i would like something like a 50BMG or 20mm. Oh, one thing about that moive most of the people at what look like M1A1s,FAL, or M16's but not a shot was fired(one guy had a 458win mag but he never took a shot.) also there is dinosaur still around like the gator or the giant crocodiles in africa so if it could not kill one of them i would not use it on a dinosaur. But dinosaur die out a long time ago and that was a movie(like how the one pH had a very good shot with his 600 double but the peta man had took his only 2 bullets yeah like a PH would only have 2 bullets)

Good on ya Jamal!  When I started reading your post that movie (Jurassic Park II or III?) was the first thing I thought of!  Now how many people would have recognised that double as a 600 Nitro?  Is it possible you know more then you let on?

I may not be that good of a hunter or shot but i do know a lot of about guns(i have so many gun mag and catalogs that i have to give some away every year). As many as you know i am a kind of new hunter(been hunting for years just not with guns) and i am young so i am more will to try crazy things(like the time i killed a hog with a slingshot or the time i killed birds on the wing with a slingshot). But i try and try to stay on the right side. I really don't like movies like Jurassic Park because it just more PETA craziness(all 3 of the movies they were well armed but yet they still die and in Jurassic Park in the opening they are loading a raptor into it's cage and it knocks down one of the men and pulls him in and about 30-45 men all fire Full auto into it but it does not go down.) Also i like movie with the undead in it because that more real(something could make people go crazy and start eatting people and make them a little harder to kill) 28weeks later was a very good moive.

Well, I sort of imagine that your choice would depend on your style of hunting and which theory of killing you subscribe to, as well as the size of dinosaur you plan on hunting.

Now, since real men go exclusively for the large carnivores, we'll dispense with the talk of lesser dinosaurs and get right down to the mighty T-Rex. 

Now, if your going after bush T-Rex, an up-close and personal affair, you'll want a .700 NE at minimum, preferably .950 JDJ.  For this article Remington has offered me the use of their newest offering, the Orthopedic Special, in .950 JDJ.  This handsome rifle is stainless steel and comes with a special carbon fiber laminate stock and weighs in at a comfortable 4 1/2 pounds, and comes complete with a surgeon and physical therapist for your shoulder.  My 8 year old daughter described the recoil as comfortable.

Plains T-Rex are an entirely different affair, however.  The smaller, sleeker frame of the plains T-Rex, and the extended range at which it is usually engaged usually dictates the use of the tried and true .50 BMG...........
