Hmmmmm....i did see a maglite upgrade kit at lowes.  Maybe  I'll try one out.

Depending upon your use, you may very well be disappointed with the upgrade kit. You lose the focusing ability with the kit. The LED light is not the right color for walking in the woods at night, or for blood tracking. Forget about the long narrow beam of the conventional bulb. Yes,  batteries do last a long time with the LEDs.

I thought Mag Lites were the cat's meow until I discovered Princeton Tec flashlights in with the krypton bulbs, so much brighter, lighter and still waterproof. Reasonably priced.

why  not get  a high  point  for self defence  for $150

you don't need   a $600 dollar gun

gut  you want to idendify your  villan/family member
with a $10 flash light

i  once held  a man at gun point  waiting for police to arrive
with  i flash light i had to keep  hitting  to keep  it working

i have been in  boilers  and had a power  outage
left  me in the dark  on a half built scaffold

to  pepper spaty  some  one  is a step  up in aggression and should be  avoided
but  i blinding light  makes a beligerent person  just  move  on
with out escalating to violence......just leaves  them defenseless and  seeing spots

i  strobe  their  eyes momentarily then  move  my position
as  recently  as 2 weeks ago   on a trespasser
he  told  me to get the light out  of his  eyes
i told  him '' it won't be  so bright  if  you turn  and walk away''

get  the best  light you can  afford
when drugs are outlawed only out laws will have drugs
DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO STOP A DEMOCRAT
OBAMACARE....the biggest tax hike in the  history of mankind
free choice and equality  can't co-exist
AFTER THE LIBYAN COVER-UP... remind any  democrat voters ''they sat and  watched them die''...they  told help to ''stand down''

Well I guess it is what you want to do with it.  There are some of the really bright lights that are in the $40 range that take the 123 batteries.  All are about as bright as the high beams on your car/SUV/truck.
I have a number of the Stingers by Streamlight and have given my dad one as well.  Dad has problems seeing at night and the really bright light helps when he heads into the swamp to go duck hunting.  With it being rechargable he locks it into the charger every night and pulls it out on his way out the door every day and night ( when he walks the dog).  I have used the really bright light to stop neighbor dogs on the loose and comming up to me barking.
I carry one for work.  I had a customer make fun of it and ask if I was on CSI and why in the middle of the day do they carry those things.  I pulled mine out and lit up his office showing cobwebs, the screw from his glasses and other items on the floor.
I have now moved to the Scorpion and the Surefire lights that are plastic and have a couple in different places.  One in each car, one in the briefcase, tool belt, night stand next to the M28, and one in the hunting vest.  All take the 123 batteries and I buy them in the 12 count box.
As far as a hunting tool.  Well seeing 60' is kind of cool.
Best thing I can say is when the Mini mags first came out we all had them and were headed into the swamp to go woodduck hunting at 0 dark nothing wearing waders.  It was me, dad, and my two uncles.  The plan was that we would all go in at seperate locations and set up in the beaver pond with the flooded timber.  I had one of the 500,000 rechargable spot lights in my back pack.  And while the other three were struggleing through briar bushes with the mini mag lights, with the 1/2 million CP light I could see through the woods as if it were day and just walk around the briar bushes.  The small hand held lights allow me to do the same with only 1/8th the weight.

I've thought about buying a rechargeable streamlight or surefire.  I like the G2 or G3 because they aren't all that expensive and they will light up your world, but I don't like how the batteries are rated for such a short time.  I take a G2 or G3 with me when I go bear hunting because in the thick bush/woods you really want to see where you're going.  I also carry a 2D flashlight & a headlight because I don't trust batteries to last for either a G2 or G3 if I'm out there for a while.

Teddy,
With the Stingers I get about an Hour and 1/2 of run time out of a charge.
With the strion I get just under 2hours of run time
with the 123 battery lights I get an hour of run time with the 60 Lumin heads. and about 45 min with the 120.
The Metal 6P goes about 70Min.  Do not know why the plastic versoins suck up more juice.
If you are carrying something you do not trust, leave it home and carry something you do trust.
That is why I carry with me one light, extra batteries and a small head lamp that clips to the bill of my hat.

I agree about carrying you trust and that's why I carry an extra set of batteries also.  I completely trust that if I'm out in the woods for more than an hour, my fancy flashlight is going to be useless.  I keep the 2d with me in case I have to stay out in the dark longer than I planned on, it's a streamlight and has held up very well.
