Well I guess it is what you want to do with it. There are some of the really bright lights that are in the $40 range that take the 123 batteries. All are about as bright as the high beams on your car/SUV/truck.
I have a number of the Stingers by Streamlight and have given my dad one as well. Dad has problems seeing at night and the really bright light helps when he heads into the swamp to go duck hunting. With it being rechargable he locks it into the charger every night and pulls it out on his way out the door every day and night ( when he walks the dog). I have used the really bright light to stop neighbor dogs on the loose and comming up to me barking.
I carry one for work. I had a customer make fun of it and ask if I was on CSI and why in the middle of the day do they carry those things. I pulled mine out and lit up his office showing cobwebs, the screw from his glasses and other items on the floor.
I have now moved to the Scorpion and the Surefire lights that are plastic and have a couple in different places. One in each car, one in the briefcase, tool belt, night stand next to the M28, and one in the hunting vest. All take the 123 batteries and I buy them in the 12 count box.
As far as a hunting tool. Well seeing 60' is kind of cool.
Best thing I can say is when the Mini mags first came out we all had them and were headed into the swamp to go woodduck hunting at 0 dark nothing wearing waders. It was me, dad, and my two uncles. The plan was that we would all go in at seperate locations and set up in the beaver pond with the flooded timber. I had one of the 500,000 rechargable spot lights in my back pack. And while the other three were struggleing through briar bushes with the mini mag lights, with the 1/2 million CP light I could see through the woods as if it were day and just walk around the briar bushes. The small hand held lights allow me to do the same with only 1/8th the weight.
