Everybody knows if it don't say "Tactical" on it or in it's description, it ain't no good! If it mounts on a gun, so much better. Of course, if it is mounted, the bad guys have something to shoot at. Somewhere, I recently saw a test on some high-power flashlights that showed the most powerful one to be downright dangerous since it gets too hot. I still like the Maglites and the similar ones since they are hefty enough to be used for protection, but I would think that the new LED flashlights have an advantage since their batteries last longer. And I have had a lot of times when the batteries died at the worst time.

You can get the plastic surefire G2 or G3 flashlights very reasonably but about any other surefire is ridiculous. Streamlight makes an exceptionally bright light at reasonable prices. I have a surefire G2 & G3 that I use for work because we go into dark filthy places with lost of dust in the air. When I go hunting I use a streamlight headlamp and a streamlight 2D handheld that lights up the whole area. Streamlights are about the same cost as a maglight. The hundred dollar lights are way out of my league.

I haven't paid $100 for one, but I did pay $50...Lowes hardware sells one that uses 3-AAA batteries and the beam is adjustable...It is the best tracking light (other than a Coleman) that I have ever used, the blood tends to glow, with the adjustable beam you can spread the beam so you don't have a bright light shining back at you...I tied one of the 3-D Maglights with the LED bulbs and it's just too bright...

Its hard to pay that much for a flashlight BUT , but let someone shine one in your face , in the dark . You will notice right off ya can't see a thing for long enough for someone to get away or maybe change your plans .
Mine will light up a tree line a 100 yards away not bad for a penlight size flashlight .

I always carry a photon LED flashlight with me when I got hunting. Since I don't hunt my own land and have to travel it's a good idea in case you get lost and you can be seen from a mile away with one of those clipped on. On last years hunt I went with two guys and one of them had never hunted. I made sure they had one of those photon lights with them.

Maglites are certainly bright enough for about any chore I've ever attempted in the dark in the woods but they are tough on batteries and having spares is a good idea. I long ago went to the mini maglites for my woods travel and have never felt a need for more light just traveling back and forth to the stand and truck.

Back in December of 2006 I went on the Annual Handgun Hunt at White Oak Lodge and a representative there handed out the plastic Surefire G2 lights to all in attendance. We were told battery life was about an hour. Now I admit I don't use it a lot but have to believe that since then it's been used more than an hour as I used it a fair bit on that hunt and have used it many times since. It's still using the batteries furnished to me with the flashlight. That has got to be the brightest small light I've ever seen.

I've not abandoned my mag lites and mini mag lites and likely never will but I do like the G2 and will always have one of them around as well. I do think it's a good addition for those times when REALLY BRIGHT is needed. If you used one in a defensive situation where you needed to temporarily blind someone in the dark it will sure enough do the job if shined into their eyes.

The newer LED lights sure are easy on batteries but not quite as bright generally speaking as the Mag lites or the G2 and why they are so expensive I dunno. The only one of them I have is a Streamlite Pen Light in green color and I do light it a lot and always take it with me to the woods. It's a really handy little light to have on hand and doesn't take up much space or have much weight so it's easy to always have on hand and the batteries seem to last forever and the LEDs do pretty much last forever.

One other consideratoin , many of the new breed of lights have a plastic or rubber coating , any one doing service work where elec. is involved may like not having an alum. light wnen in tight spaces .

Ive got a couple Ill give you a rundown on them
4d maglight with a led buld upgrade. Good tight beam will light up a 100 yard target, and by light up I mean be able to make a positive ID on what your going to shoot. The bad thing is its heavy.
Streamlight stinger rechargable Tight beam will light up a 100 yard target, small, light.15,000CP, 125 lumens.The bad on this is the short burn time about an hour.
Streamlight ultra-stinger. This light is the best described as a hand held spotlight not a flashlight. it willight up a 200 yard target better than the others light up the 100 yard. Its still light weight fairly compact. The bad short burn time and short buld life.75,000 cp,295 lumens
Dorcy LED. I got these at Wal-mart for less than $20. About a 20ard light. Beam washes out after that. But for around the house walkin trails, These lights are the best bang for the buck Ive found.
Ive gone thru a lot of lights the Streamlights have a really good warranty if they break send it in and they fix it for life no excuses

You will never see me buying a $100.00 flashlight.

I do a lot of remodeling and sometimes I have to go into dark basements or attics to work. I own a couple Dewalt cordless drills one is 14.4 volt and the other is an 18 volt. I decided to buy their 14.4 volt flashlight that runs on the same battery as my drill. I have to say that is the best flashlight I have ever owned. It will shine bright for many hours on a full charge. To be honest I have never had it go out even after hours so I really can't say how long for sure it would shine. I bet it would go 7 or 8 hours on a charge. The best thing about it is it only cost like $25.00.

I own three flashlights. One is a tiny, single AA battery LED light that is good for keeping in your pocket while hunting for looking through bags in the dark without blinding yourself. The second is a mini-mag with the 3 watt LED, and it's a wonderful light... plenty bright and I've been using the same batteries for three years, and I use it a lot. My third light is a Surefire, and I don't recall the model at the moment, but it's a Xenon bulb and runs off of four three volt batteries. It's obscenely bright, more like a hand-held spotlight than a flashlight. I have to be careful with it because accidentally switched it on when it was in the holster and it burned through the nylon sheath, through a cotton t-shirt, and into my cotton boxers!

$100 gets you light weight and extreme output and a shockproof lamp. Do you need all three? I wanted light/compactness and bright light, got a surefire p6 the run time is pretty poor the batteries are expensive but it does what I want, that is, a AAbattery size light that thinks it's a 3d cell maglight. It won't last if moumted on a weapon but I'm not sure that is the best place for my flashlight. So $50 later I'm happy. If I'm using it to read it is too expensive but to find a lost arrow/game animal it's great, cause I have it with me, not in truck.

most of the world is right handed if you don't provide light on your property for thiefs to work under and hold just to the right of the flashlight you'll get most of them. Just for giggles how many live out in the country and install "security" lights to provide thiefs a work light?

well the main reason you needs one is im kinda short this week and i got several i sell for that paltry sum.. i ll signum for an exstra 10..our problems be over
i ll have the green to get by this week an you will have several fine autographed flashlites..
seriously there was a time that i went thru the sorry flash lites like crazy ,as none i tried would last .. now ,it seems the cheapies work just fine..change is constant .. which is good in this case..

I belong to a deer hunting club and we all hunt from elevated stands. Weight and size is not a problem because our walks are short. I carry a flashlight that is 40 years old and has six D-cell batteries. I used to coon hunt with it as a teen. It really helps to have all the light you can get when tracking a deer after dark. I've noticed that several of our member have started using these fancy new high dollar flashlights. After tracking for a while, they usually get right beside me and look for blood in my beam, because their beam is so small and mine is big and bright.

The light I use is no longer made. I have two of them and would get a few more if I could locate the company, but I don't think they are in business anymore. They were in Ohio.

I've got a 4 D-cell Mag light that I use when I have to investigate noises or when the back porch light goes on. I'm not so much concerned about armed intruders, as local teenagers getting out of hand. The light can be used just as the cops use them, for defense if necessary. I can also carry something lethal if I want to.

i carry it building scaffolding in boilers for emergency exits[along with back up lights]
it has 24 carrot plated switches
sharp front for cutting an attacker
blinding bright and fairly indestructable
with good /controlable momentary switch....for blinding defence

3 AAA batterys

If it's about N.J. A member of our club went to a gun show in N.J., and on the way back from N.J. to CT. they were stopped by a state police officer.They had some long guns in the trunk (unloaded of course) and though this would be a problem N.J.'s known anti-gun, the cop said the guns were no problem,but the in-line 3-cell flashlite was against the law.He let them off with a warning this time.

that's wild . Federal law allows one to pass thru. states with items that arent legal in the state passed thru. if the item is legal at the starting point and at the destination . in their case it would not work because they went to the show there .
