squirrel hunt

I attempted to go squirrel hunting this past weekend.  Dad wanted to take us fishing instead.  The same thing happened to my turkey hunt as well.  But we had a good time only caught two channel cat but still had a good time.  Maybe next time I make it out there.  I recently scoped my buckmark and am looking forward to matching it up against the beastly squirrel.  Maybe in August I can get out that way again.

You should listen to your dad. It's the wrong time of year to hunt squirrel. Wait till the fall when the leaves are off the trees, and all the young are raised. AND! When you don't have to worry about steppin on a copperhead. :o  This is fishin weather in the south.

Well, I most likely wont be hunting squirrel in the fall.  There is lots of other critters I would much rather be hunting in the fall.  It is about the only season open besides coyote right now and I just have the itch to go.  Fishing is fine but I would rather be hunting.  I have only heard of a couple of copperhead sitings in my neck of the woods we are in rattler country.  My neighbor was going to take me hog hunting near Chickasaw but that deal fell through and now I have the itch to do that as well.  From what I understand the landowner and him were doing some business together and when the deal fell through so did the hunting.

one of the pluses of having a lot of hogs around is that you won't have a lot of snakes.

I have not heard that, can you explain?  It is actually a different area of the state than where I would have been squirrel hunting.  I use to raise hogs and actually had one bit by a prairie rattler.

I really prefer to hunt squirrels in May and early June as you get the young tender ones

Matt alot of people claim hogs to kill and eat snakes. I believe on Lonesome Dove Gus' 2 pigs would kill and eat em. Loved that movie!!
