Daughter wants a revolver...
« on: June 26, 2008, 09:00:16 PM »
I posted this on the handgun forum but thought I'd put it here too...

16 yo daughter wants a ".45 revolver" for her birthday.  We are in Germany so she doesn't get a car or even a license... saves on insurance so I'm okay with that...  anyway, she likes to shoot and has a 20 gauge slug gun, a Beretta 390 and a Beretta 686 (bought all with her own money).  She has better guns than I do!  Anyway, I could probably just get her a new model vaquero and be done with it but I thought I'd try to get some better ideas before I buy.

What's the best clone out there?  EMF, Cimmaron, USFA???  What's up with Taylor's?  They don't manufacture do they?  I think they are just a distributor but for who?  I read on their "Smoke Wagon" this month but who makes it?  I could go as high as maybe about $600 for the gun...

What's wrong with the Ruger NV?  Everybody has to have a Ruger, for no other reason than their reliability and durability.  If lighter loads are required, the .45 Special case can be used with lighter bullets.

If .45 special cases can't be located, cut off .45 Long Colt cases to .45 acp length, and use acp bullets and dies.

.45 Special case can be used

45 Spl.?   ???

I have and old EMF and a newer Uberti.  Both 45 Colt SAA'a of course.  If I'm not mistaken, most of the clones you see are made by Uberti and sold under the name of or assembled/finished by the companies you mentioned.  In other words except for minor cosmetics it's 6 of one and a half dozen of the other.  I'm reaching far back in my memory on this, an oxymoron at my age, ::) so you might want to do your own research.  It's easy on the internet!   ;)

By.45 Special, were you really referring to the .45 Schofield instead?  That's my guess...

Nope!  .45 SPECIAL

http://www.cowboy45special.com/

They are quite popular among the Cowboy Action shooting crowd.  The rim is from a .45 Long Colt, and the rest of the case is a .45 ACP.  Load it using .45 ACP dies and the long colt shell holder.  If you can't locate the shorter cases, do as I do, and cut off Long Colt cases with a small tubing cutter and trim with a LEE .45 ACP case trimmer.

Another feller, Dick Dastardly, designed and sells "BIG LUBE" style bullet moulds.  The perfect match for the .45 Special is the .45 EPP-UG 150.  It was designed to be a lube-groove style bullet that matches the weight of a roundball, and can be used in .44 Cap n' Ball revolvers, but is an excelent light bullet for any .45 round.

Very interesting.  ;)  Looks like a neat gamer's cartridge.

You could probably put one up and one down (bullet to bullet) in your cartridge loops in order to hold twice as many on your belt.  ;D
