M1 Carbine Scope ?
« on: June 29, 2008, 10:26:50 AM »
My Carbine has a red dot scope and a mount that replaces the rear sight on it. I want to replace it with a low power compact scope. Can anyone recomend a good quailty scope that will work on the carbine ? I am looking at a Ncstar MkIII for about $100 dollars. Also considered a TruGlow 2x red dot. Not sure if a Ncstar is worth that much.

Put my first scope on an M1 carbine in '68. Went through numerous Weaver, Bushnell and Tasco scopes that got rattled apart before I finally discovered that the little M1's recoil in both directions and vibration is very hard on cheaper scopes.  Spend the money on a Leupold if you want to scope your M1 carbine.

Look for one of the newly made Weaver "Classic" K scopes.  They may have stopped making them a year or so ago, but there are alot of them out there, nib, and they are as sturdy as tanks.  I think they came in 2.5 and 4 power.  Very compact, very well suited to heavy recoil, so should be great for your carbine. You may have to pay $125 to $150 to get one though.  I have two, on hunting rifles, and I highly recommend them.

Probably so, but I've gotten surprising accuracy out of a carbine with an old Weaver J2.5, the little 3/4" steel tube, in Weaver side mounts and it's size seems well proportioned to the M1 Carbine.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
