Fitting Huntsman barrel to SB2 reciever
« on: June 29, 2008, 05:49:04 PM »
I have recently acquired a 2 to 3 year old NEf 50 cal barrel which I want to use on my SB2 NK reciever.

I do not believe the barrel fully "locks up" although it is very close. (I can not open barrel by hand without pushing on the break open release lever, but I do not have to push the release lever as far as I do as with the .223 barrel. The height of the lever also seems to be ever so slightly lower when barrel is closed on the 50 barrel.

Am I right in assuming that the half moon cutout on barrel lug needs to be filed down a bit so as to slip a bit further over the locking rod in the reciever?
If so what is the proper method and tools?

I would not attempt this "head spacing" myself in a rifle barrel, but considering this has the breechplug I am tempted to try this myself.

Thanks, Kelly

See the barrel fitting info in the FAQs on checking latch engagement, although the Huntsman barrel isn't as critical to fit as cartridge barrel, you don't want it to be lose on the frame either, and removing too much from the latch shelf will result in a lose fit.
