Here is a pic of 2 groups from my Smith 44 mag DX Classic. These were shot from a bench at 100 yards. 200 grain Hornady XTP hollow point over 24.2 grains of VV N-110. The target on the right wasn't as tight as I was "tweaking" in. I did have that flyer on the left. I could blame it on the bullet. Some might say I did a flinch.....but with my nerves of steel and stare of death....I might argue with that! I took a doe with this load last year (This gun) at 40 yards. Went thru both shoulders and took out the heart along the way. Doe did one flip and landed in the same spot she was eating in. No trailing...Nice!
I post this just to tell you my vote is for the 44 mag, 200 grain bullet. If your shots are out to 125 yards, this is all you need. Scope the handgun, practice with it to gain confidence and know your gun and where it's going to shoot....then go bag 'n tag!
Good luck!
