Plans for a Ruger 10/17 ? ? ? ?
« on: July 25, 2003, 05:51:01 AM »
I have a Ruger 10/22 and love it.  It was my first rifle and you would have to pry it from my cold dead hands before I would give it up.  However, I would love to have the same thing in a 17 HMR.  I believe Clark Custom makes a 10/17, but I can't afford that kind of custom price.  I believe Ruger has a leaver action in 17 HMR, what are their plans for the semi auto line?

Thaks! :D

I would be surprised if it's not already offered. If you have a ruger 22mag autoloader then all you need is a new barrel. I believe Cabbellas has them and probably midway.  KN

The Ruger 10/17 is supposed to be available soon, if not already. There have been several magazines with Ruger ads for the rifle. BTW, here's a good rimfire website: http://www.rimfirecentral.com  MI VHNTR

I checked Ruger's website last night and found nothing concerning a 10/17 based on the 10/22 model.

I VERY VAUGELY remember hearing somewhere that the reason Ruger had not made a 10/17 was due to the receiver for the 10/22 was not designed for the increased chamber pressure of the 17 HMR.  True or False????

However, it appears that everyone and their mother on Rimfire Central is converting 10/22's to 10/17's with some minor problems that had mostly to do with feeding and ejection of cartridges.

By the way, Ruger's new website is sorry to say the least.  I had to go 3-4 screens deep before I ever saw a firearm.

Remington has already released their 17 HMR 597. It seems that if Remington solved the problems of the 17 HMR in an autoloader, that Ruger will do the same. I really like my 597 LS in 17 HMR. An extra 22 Mag bbl. and I've got both rimfire magnum autoloaders in one rifle. MI VHNTR
