My Barrel Went out to Remington to day
« on: July 07, 2008, 06:14:56 AM »
I will keep you guys updated on Remington and how they will stand by there new name H@R and Remington repair service?
I spoke with Tim about the new barrel that was fitted at the old H@R plant seem they did grind to much from the under-lug
sloppy barrel to action fit.
I spoke with the new h@R customer service to day in N.C. He said just return it to them in N.Y.S. should take about 4 weeks to return they are still trying to get the new plant up and running ???
I even asked for a new barrel I don't want it shim to fit I could of done that myself

I called the new customer service to day and wanted to see if they had any remarks on the barrel that was poorly fitted to the action from the old company? I checked UPS tracking and it was delivered on the June 8-08
The gentleman stated all incoming items from H@R barrel or repair items take about 2 to 3 weeks :I see now the problem with customer service at another location seem a little harder to record items by checking your zip code.
I did explain what happen about the poor fitted barrel to action and did ask if a NEW BARREL  will be refitted and will there be  any problems.I was told they would not try to Re-fit the older barrel if the under-lug had to much material removed @ a NEW BARREL will be fitted and yes seem no problem in a cash refund to return the barrel to them :
I am on the waiting program now ???

Sounds to me, that they are starting off on the wrong foot >:(  Remington needs to come up to HR/NEF standards. At least before the buy-out, there seemed to be a personalized-type of communication. I hope this is just a glitch and not of things to come! ::)

Gardner is still making the parts and trucking them to Illion, Gardner should be completely shutdown in October. I'll have more info soon on the Ilion operation.

I would recommend no one hold their breath on this. I sent a Pardner receiver in to get Tracker and Huntsman barrels back in June (arrived in Gardner June 15 - Five and a half weeks ago). I called about it two weeks ago and was told it would be about two more weeks and that my receiver had been shipped from Gardner to Ilion (I hadn't actually heard anything about the change over until then, found this board after that). Called today (two weeks later) and was told it would be another four weeks from now before it would be done. So I'm looking at a total turn around of about ten weeks from when it got to them in Gardner.

I will Waite until end of august before i will ask for my action back and then dispute my charge with the credit card company for a refund on the barrel.
Remington or the new H@R can keep the barrel it seem poor customer service so far :
I think it is a poor excuse that they are waiting for part this should of been in the works when they closed the other plant .
O well can't beat the system  ???

Cut them some slack!!
I'm sure Remington will get the bugs worked out of the system.

Maybe some things will improve.
More caliber choices, maybe even being able to buy an accesory barrel without having to send the frame in for fitting.

Think positive!!
Negativity will not change anything now, just hope for the best!!

The parts inventory is now in place in NY with lots of barrels in inventory so parts orders are moving and barrel fits should start this week. Brian and John from the Gardner plant are in Ilion facilitating the new operation, so they have some good people training the new staff. The assembly process has been re-engineered and should make a nice improvement in the firearms, we should see some genuine improvements in cosmetic finish and parts interchangeability in the next year.

More info later as I get it.  ;)

My Buffalo Classic with its new (just over one month old) 22-250 fluted bull barrel left today with the same problem.   It so loose when closed that it rattles when you carry it.   People here said "send it back".
I couldn't get it to shoot much better then a shot gun at 100 yards, but I only shot 100 rounds through it.

This is the kind of thing that has shied me away from doing anything with my kids guns. :(  I'm going to wait and see how this all works out before I commit to throwing away a hunting season waiting on a gun.  I'm with Snuffer on this one.  Remington should have risen to H&R standards first!  Every single dealing I had with the good folk at Gardener MA left me with a smile.  IMHO they defined "Quality Service".  For 23 years I've done business with gun manufacturers, granted all of it was military work, but I have never been more pleased than when dealing with H&R.  Thus why I am still a fan ::)

I've spoken to the new Customer Service for NEF three times now, nice people, but short on answers.  My frame arrived in Gardener around 6/15 for two barrels which were both in stock.  Frame was then sent to the NY Plant and arrived 7/3.  Both barrels are still in stock, estimated shipping time as of yesterday was still 6 to 8 weeks from now but might be less.  Had two other barrels fitted in May and received them in Early June, on the same order there were some extra sights and bases.  The sights and bases were billed but not shipped, I've emailed (Gardener), called, and written NEF about this and they say they will ship the parts, BUT the WGRS sights are on back-order and they have no idea of when they will be available, they also won't ship the parts which are in stock.  Not very promising, but there are always problems with a manufacturing change, just wish they were a little more customer focused.  Hopefully their work is better than their support.

They did take around 10 minutes to answer the phone.  they received mine Friday.  I called Monday to ask a question.  they said call back friday because it might be entered into the books by then.  I said once it's entered into the books, the work order will be one line and any comments I want to leave will be entered onto the work order.  I forgot to tell them the firing pin hits the primer about 1/2 way between the edge of the primer and the center.  But since mine was so loose, I guess they will just replace the barrel anyway.  Hope the new one is drilled a little more on center.

I will give it to around the middle of sept: then I will ask them to return my action and I will dispute my charge with the gredit card company and ask for a refund on the barrel.

Has Remington started cranking out the new product yet, or are they just doing repairs and upgrades on HR/NEF's? Sorry if this has been covered, as I've been away for awhile. -g

You guys are scaring the crap out of me.  I shipped my receiver in for a new 44Mag barrel.  It was received in Ilion on Wednesday (7/30).  I hope it doesn't take 6 weeks or more to get it back.

Oh Well.....

With the backlog of the move, I would expect at least 8 weeks which is within their standard return time of 6-8 weeks.

Tim

During periods of high demand, please allow six to eight weeks for delivery of your additional barrels or accessories.

That's definitely not what I was wanting to hear.

I was hoping to have the 44Mag back for primitive weapon season.  Also, that is the receiver that mates with my 243 barrel for regular rifle season.  Sounds like I may not have either back in time to do some pre season range work.

Fortunately, I still have my muzzleloader to fall back on for primitive season and a Savage 243 for rifle.......

OH WELL>>>>

I'm pretty new to the forum and certainly don't want to ruffle a bunch of feathers, but I just have to ask this question:

What did you expect to happen when the company closed one plant and shifted the work to another?

Did you really expect business as usual?  Did you really expect that during this transitional phase of operations that everything would run as smoothly as it did @ the old plant?  Are any of you really surprised that it may take additional time to receive your orders?

I'm a bit confused ???

Jim

Business as usual.......probably not.  But actually, I would expect an improvement.

Why close down a perfectly good working operation unless your intention is to improve it and possibly save cost?  Otherwise, why go to the problems you will create if what you have is working and cost effective?  The transitional phase should be transparent to the customer.  If it isn't, then someone did not do their job correctly on the front end.

My opinion for what it's worth..........

i have to agree with jjas they just moved its going to take some time to get stuff back how it was .

look i know nobody likes the fact that remington took over but they do make good rifles and i'll bet NEF will improve from it.

just give them sometime to get things going and stop complaining about how much time it takes to get your barrel back. back in the day it would take all summer just for a barrel and a trigger job
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while
