It doesn't have too get shipped back to Gardner, since the company is a single entity (Remington) that is the sole holder of the FFL invloved.

Kevin,
Your statement just isn't true. Each FFL is address specific. Even though Remington ownes H&R, the gun still would need to go back to Gardner before being returned to the sender - otherwise its a violation of the reg's.

The Gardner FFL moved to Ilion, that's why any orders received after a certain date had to be forwarded to Ilion, because Gardner was no longer the site of the FFL.

I know this may be hard for some of ya but...take a look like the glass is half full not that long ago we didn't even know if they were getting or had your bbl and frames. Now they are apperantly shipping so much stuff out they ran out of boxes. So they are either getting work done on the line or they are shipping a bunch of disgruntled guys guns home with no work done. ;D Kurt

I just got a email to day saying my action was fitted and was sent to the test firing stage:I have to say it been there a week in a half and is waiting to pass the final inspection.I was informed it will be shipped later this week or next week back to me.I also was told there will be no delay as far as the gun will be ship to me for the reason I sent it too the new plant. They also said they were so back log on repair and the barrel add on program from the old plant
The bad news I got if it came from the old H@R it will have to be returned to them and then sent to the original owner.

Okay so here is the update...apparently they do have to ship it back to gardner from Ilion and then ship it back to the original owner...
here is the response to my question about why my gun that was finished fitting and testing on August 12 STILL hasn't shipped out of Ilion...

"Kevin,

I am sorry for the delay in response, I was away from the office for a few days.  I looked to see why your gun hasn't shipped yet and the reason was because all of the guns that have to be returned through Gardner were being packed onto one large skid and were going to be shipped all at once.  I have had an e-mail sent to the factory to try to find out if we can get your gun pulled separately and shipped.

Your gun does have to go through Gardner, because despite being a part of our company, they are still operating under their own FFL license because they are at a separate location.  Manufacturing and fitting has ceased at the Gardner location but they are still operating to forward guns that are mistakenly shipped there.  Federal law mandates that when a firearm is shipped, it must be return shipped via the same route so that each FFL holder can clear their books of the gun.  I am sorry for the hold up, I didn't know that Ilion was intending to ship all of the guns that came through Gardner back at one time."

I'm a little offended since this plan is ...a) stupid (there waiting to finish the last one before shipping out any of them?) and b) dishonest (I shipped the order to the address on their website at the time I ordered, so how was it "mistakenly" shipped to Gardner?)

Oh for cryin' out loud! :'( :'( People will probably be shipping their guns to Gardner for the next twenty years because that is the address that came with the gun they bought years ago. So who's fault is that? When I sent guns in for barrels to the OLD H&R I didn't expect them back within three months. I had the common sense to not send in a gun to ANY place if I expected to need said gun anytime soon. Grow up and get over it!

gee, any time a bussines or person isn't straight up with answers sends up a red flag to me.surely the mangers knew this extra work load was coming for some time, and would of had a special game plan or team put together to deal with the n.e.f work load, and aim not talking about the gunsmith part, but the questions that they surely knew would be coming.and would have some type of answer and time table ready for the new customers if they really cared about them.or maybe the managers didn't get any support from the higher ups, just the extra work load shoved on them and told to deal with it.it just seems like very poor planning on there or someones part .maybe the owners just wanted to get the new line of firearms first and work on the other parts later.i guess time will tell.

I didn't send it to the address "that came with the gun" I sent it to the address that I got off their website the day I shipped it.  And I was assuming that when they said "allow six to eight weeks for delivery during busy times" that that meant I could actually expect my gun back in say...SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS, not THREE MONTHS (if its even done then).

One person has gotten their barrel back that I know of. The new one fit fine, unfortunately the old ones no longer did.

I've been watching this relocation/transition for close to 2 months now, and really don't see much sign of a positive response showing up.  My limited contact with the H&R group in MA was by & large very acceptable.   It seems Big Green inherited a big backlog of pending work when they got hold of Marlin/H&R.   Considering their other holdings that really shouldn't have been any great surprise.   As far as phone volume, the whole industry shifts into high gear this time of year.  Nothing new there either.   Could it be that we got used to quality service and wanted to believe it could continue?

Hopefully the problems with the one barrel fitted at Ilion is the exception and not the rule.  Any idea of what the fix is for the problem......

Tim seemed to think the only explanation was they replaced the hinge pin on the receiver to fit the new barrel. As far as fixing it I think they ended up sending it back to Remington.

I've seen lots of old posts on here form people who got heir barrel fittings back in 3 to 4 weeks. Not sure I buy teh 'well there was a huge back-up from Gardner' line based on all I have heard from before the change.

Just spoke to Daniel at NEF:  The frames received from Gardner are being shipped back to Gardner in groups (maybe 30 or 50 at a time depends on the # finished), this is to control shipping cost and the delay caused is normally only 3 - 5 days, they're not holding the shipping up for weeks.  As long as Gardner has an active FFL this will be the case.  I asked about changing out a pivot pin, this would only happen if the pin was damaged or undersized causing a safety issue, and NEF would work with the customer for any barrels they had that would no longer fit.  All sounds pretty darn reasonable.  I'm waiting for a call back on my frame, it's been at the work bench since late July.  One barrel was done +2 weeks ago, but they have no information on other barrel (it's not listed as part of the barrel program) so Daniel and Ed are running this down.  I'd say CS is doing their best, they didn't put this in place, but they're doing what they can to move it along.

So, since I sent mine to Ilion originally, mine won't have to go through Gardner?? The only ones going back through Gardner are the ones that were shipped there to begin with.. then transferred to Ilion?? Is that correct?

Correct.  If shipped to Ilion it will be returned directly from Ilion.  And for the Gardner firearms, yesterday per Ed (NEF/Remington CSR) they have frieght pickups to return the Gardner firearms to Gardner just about every day.

I thought by now my barreled action and barrel will be on it way back,no such luck if suppose to have failed final inspection and was return to the smith and only 2 days ago went back to the shooting testing stage.I can say it all a crock of bull you can't tell me the gun smith there can't fit a barrel correct the first time.I tell you when I get the gun back if I ever do I am going selling it and going to purchase a t/c encore in 7MM-08;I tell you I will never deal again the new h@R the company only good for is a good run around on the phone
Thompson center the best warranty and service there is ;I was shooting last week at the range and I bump into a guy that says Remington has his barrel action now 4 months and he don't have any idea when it going to be completed ???

Is it possible that Remington is trying to either abandon or restructure the Barrel Accessory program and this is a way to get the ball headed in that direction?  I am definitely not a business type fella but this can't be much of a money maker.  The cost of the replacement barrels is very cheap and the cost for fitting the barrels is very cheap also.  I can't understand how $15.00 can cover the 20 minutes it takes to actually fit the replacement barrel as well as then taking it out to test fire.  Additionally, if it doesn't pass muster, it must be reworked.  I would venture a guess that from the time a receiver is delivered, it must pass through at least 5 or 6 sets of hands (probably more).  I just don't see a heck of a lot of profit here.  :-\

"I am going selling it and going to purchase a t/c encore in 7MM-08"

That would be a huge mistake.  Encores aren't worth the money.  A spare barrel cost more than a new gun.  Also the 7mm-08 stinks, too big for varmits and too light for deer.  Try to at least get a .30-06.  The recoils the same and you won't have to search for your deer.  Short cartridges make no sense in single shot guns.

Swampman : I have to agree with you I should of just let it be and just stayed with my 30-06 original barrel that came on the rifle when new
I would not be in this BS problem about how poor customer service is at the new remington plant

my 30-06 speaks for itself
I hope the barrel will fit my action when and if  REM: decided to send it back
