I was once at a resturant that made very good hot ham sandwiches like this, so this is not my original recipe or idea. First cut up some onions and brown them in a frying pan. Be sure the bottom of the pan gets some brown stuff stuck on it. Next, remove the onion and brown some ham in the pan. Slice it irregular so there will be a number of pieces for each sandwich. After the ham is brown stack the ham in a sandwich size pile (in the frying pan) and cover with the browned onions. Then put some cheddar cheese on top (either sliced or grated) and let it set in the hot pan with a lid on it until the cheese melts. After that, put on bread and enjoy. My wife does not really like ham but thinks this is great. So far, everyone who has tried it like it.
