Pedersoli Barrel Sight on 45-70 Buffalo Classic
« on: July 08, 2008, 03:37:21 PM »
Will one of the barrel sights off of a Pedersoli Sharps fit on the rear mount of a BC? I can get one, but don't want to order if it will not work.

Any feedback appreciated.

Welcome to GBO! The Smith Long Range sight is made for the BC, see Long Range Sights in the FAQs and Help sticky, spend some time in there, then ask if you don't see whatcha need to know.  ;)

I've looked at the FAQ's. This Pedersoli sight is used and the asking price is less than half the price of the Smith. as I have recently spent $375 on a BC, and about $90 on reloading supplies I'm trying to be budeget conscious.  :)

From the picture, my old eyes say that that sight goes in a 3/8 dovetail.  My BC has 3 holes taped for the Smith type sight. If you could cut the dovetail it might work!

Cheers,

I'm sure it could be made to fit, but unless you have the ability to do the work yourself, what you pay a smith to do the work may be as much as the $140 Smith sight when all is said and done including the cost of the Pedersoli sight. The Smith sight mounts in the scope mount holes and come with a peep slider. I dunno about cutting a dovetail over the chamber, that's quite a lot of metal to remove.

From the experience of those here do the front sights need to be replaced to use the smith? and if so with what?

Depends on how far you want to shoot, replace the .494" or .584" with a .404" and you'll be all set out to 800yds+  ;)

Go to a shop that sells Pedersoli's and look at the barrel sight on most of them. If you think that is a sight that you want you could probably talk me out of mine for less than retail. But go look before you buy that one.
