Old Style Ruger .44 Magnum Carbine - Need Scope Bases
« on: July 11, 2008, 04:10:46 AM »
I've got an old-style, tubular-magazine Ruger .44 Magnum Carbine  coming from GunBroker and I need to find scope bases and rings for it.

The Weaver scope base chart shows a 2-piece base for a "44 Carbine Magnum Deerstalker."  Will the Deerstalker bases fit the old-style carbine?

How did the Ruger factory rings work?  Was it a one-piece base and rings like you see on T/C Encores?

I see you made your choice - Good Luck !

Will the Deerstalker bases fit the old-style carbine? - Yes - the "Deerstalker" was the early model name for the .44 Auto, soon dropped due to a complaint by Ithaca Gun Co over it's copywrited "Deerslayer" trademark.  All tube-fed .44 autos use the same, 2-piece base system.

How did the Ruger factory rings work? - There were no factory rings supplied at that time. Ruger only began to supply rings years later, when other new rifles were introduced - like the #1 & M-77.

Was it a one-piece base and rings like you see on T/C Encores? - Two piece, Weaver-syle (#68 Front/#47 Rear) bases were available.  There used to be both high & low base sets available (different base numbers), but I see that now only one height is made.

B-square makes an adapter if it's got the propietary ruger ring mounts...then you may utilize any rings you want.

no ring mounting on the carbine,as said above by rangr44 you need a two piece base, one mounts to the rear of the receiver the other to the barrel.i know i have at least one with a redfeild 2 piece base on it,a little nicer than the weaver.i don't think i have ever seen a one piece.good luck with it,adker

Forget the pretty little Walther 7x57 Mauser and look behind at the Marble's box. Within resides a one piece low mount scope mount that has just enough height to allow use of the open sights as well. Not one of those funky mile high see-throughs. I do not have a photo of it handy but can take one if folks are interested.
