That sounds like a great call.  I will spend that if I need too, but I see calls selling for 30, 100, 200.  Any luck with these?  I guess maybe, I should ask what would be a good starter call?

That looks great.  I did not go through the page just did a search with little luck.  Thanks for helping the blind.  I may have to order one.

I started with a $9.00 hand call and now have a foxpro FX5 and about $200.00 worth of hand calls

Buy what you can aford and learn how to use the calls at hand.

Before answering that question, where do you plan to hunt?   How is your coyote population?

I started out with hand calls that I made myself in the 50's... and still use only hand calls that I make.   Nothing has been invented that can improve on that or do a better job.    ;)

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Sometimes my reeds will be out of whack (usually at the start of the season) and I blame oxidation and the associated deposits for this. I will usually take an aerosol that is billed to penetrate, clean & lube and run just a few drops off the end of the straw directly on top of the reed along with a little compressed air and they are just like new again.

I purchased a Burnham call once and it came with good Inst on adjusting the reed for the sound that you want. It took me around 5min to tear this thing up but they (Burnham) were gracious enough to make repairs Free OF Charge when I sent it back to them. I work with the reeds more now a day's but this is often just to change them out with other reeds that came with the call. I might get around to trying to make a reed one day...it would be centered in cork with the cork then being centered in a wooden barrel. Would probably be ugly as sin but might just work. ;D
I believe that the first call that I purchased was an OLT call that came from Pekin IL in the early 70's. This one will still "produce" well and is made of wood. I have plenty of Wood calls but the plastic models have been encroaching.

I do like to dabble in the electronics and have put together 3 diff elect calls but they have been commandeered by my Son & Son-in-law. Good riddance, I said to myself as I just didnt want to carry one of those contraptions along when I could be using a good mouth call and coaxer to try & bring them right up to my boot tips if that is what I would choose to do.
My best producer over the last couple years has been the Lohman circe three in one call and the Coyotes cant seem to resist it. While the sound is important, a lot lies in the setup and technique. Best thing that you can do is just to get out there and call.

It will be primarily in western Oklahoma.  Last year the coyote population was poor but have seen several more already this year.  This year I think will be ok.  Most years out here they are very thick and the ranchers are begging the few coyote hunters to take care of the problem.

Hmmm, well that kinda leaves me stumped.  If it were me I think I'd start out with the mouth calls like a Lohman Circe and then if you're seeing enough coyotes to justify it, jump into a foxpro.

They sure do.  Lately (as in last Feb) I've been experimenting with the close reed and making high-pitched noises like a pup calling to momma.  Had luck with it but the population around here is pretty thin so I can't say for sure.  Makes me long for McNeal.

When starting I went to varmit als site and down loaded a few calls and recorded them on a  cd and bought a weather proof speaker and a couple hundred feet of wire used a walkman to play them and it worked fine. Cheap and effective.

I like that Idea.  I saw a thread on here about building one and like the idea but have never messed with mp3's and did not want to have to figure that out on top of building the thing so a cd sound good.  Did you need an amplifier or was the player loud enough on its own.  What speaker would you recommend I do not know much about that kinda of stuff.

Pretty simple affair as a 6' patch cord goes from your device to amp in with another going from amp out to the speaker. You may have to splice the end at the speaker depending on the one that you have.
The Radio Shack amp is very reasonable (cost wise) and produces 40watts on the output. Your Speaker (automotive 5") can be had dirt cheap that can handle this wattage but you will want to consider the clarity and may want to
Invest a little more. If you run a search here for (homemade elect calls) you can come up with some great packaging ideas.

Those are some quite versitile reeds for sure.

Glanceblamm, I made an almost identical setup, except with an mp3 player instead of CD.  Works good.  Here's a thread about it for anyone interested.
