Barrel to receiver play?
« on: July 12, 2008, 02:49:57 PM »
Is it OK if you can hold the barrel and move it left to right and feel some movement on the receiver?
My 22-250 barrel does this on my BC frame.  You can see the movement as viewed alone the sides of where the forearm meets the receiver.

Is it loose with the barrel closed or open??

If it's only loose with it open you could shim between the spacer and forearm to tighten it up.
If it's loose with it closed you need to shim between the pivot pin and the underlug cutout to tighten it up.
(If I'm wrong someone here will correct me)

Read the FAQ's on barrel fitting.

My .357 did that, and I followed the FAQs and Tim's advice and cut a small shim out of a beer can (not pop, Beer) .002 and wrapped it around the pivot.  I did not epoxy it because I wanted to make sure it was going to work.  Well, it is still there and working.  I guess when it wears out I'll use the new epoxy Tim just posted.  It is easy to fix, don't be upset about it.  Pete

yes it does it when closed.  If I do shim it I would need to have a removable shim since the original buffalo classic barrel fits well without the shim.  What sucks is I just received this back from H&R as a "new install".  It's thier top of the line 22-250 barrel (flutted bull).

It has "CHS" syndrome (Can't hit shi)  but I figured that might be my loads and cheep bullets, and a trigger pull that takes 2 fingers to operate. (they said they fixed that also).

It's only had 100 rounds through it.  At 200 yards my groups are around 16".  >:(

The shim goes in the pivot on the underlug, not on the frame hinge pin unless you do a temp shim like Pete did. If it's a factory fitted barrel, it needs to go back to H&R for a new barrel. Lonewolf's 7mm-08 went back for the same problem last week.  :'(

think I should let the new place settle down first? or get it into the mail. I guess since all adjustments are done on the barrel, It would be safe to not send the original barrel.
Next chance I have to ship it is Wed of next week.

Thanks everyone.  H&R is sending a "call tag" so I can return the gun for free.  They want me to make sure the original BC barrel is still tight, if not they want them both back.

Man when I called they said to send it in nothing was mention about a call tag?
I was told they would refund the shipping will see;
I hope they don't work on my action since I have a 30-06 barrel that came original on the action .
I will be taking both barrel to the range if I get my action back just to check how my 06 still shoots.
I hope I don't have to send the 06 barrel back
just a waiting game now ???
