I don't feel so bad now
« on: July 13, 2008, 05:23:10 PM »
Stopped over to a friends place to barrow some dies and he's a big time TC guy , last count was almost 100 barrels , we got to talking about how well the barrels he buys fit as compaired to the H&R's that we buy .

I ask if all his barrels will fit every frame , he replies No way , that's why I have 11 frames , it seems that even the TC's have a problem were some barrels will not fit some frames , and even worse some barrels will lock the frame up so bad that you have to disassemble the frame to just open the barrel .

When I asked what the going price was for a barrel he just smiled , for what he is paying for a barrel , I can get a complete Handi or a custom barrel complete with chamber work and dies .

So I don't feel so bad .  ;D

Sorry buddy , if your sure you want a 7mm mag the only way to do that is the TC or bolt .  :'(  but for the standard rounds or even a bunch of the Wildcats you just can't beat a H&R .  ;)

When I was looking for a new varmint gun I was looking for a T/C encore barrel.  Decided I could buy the gun, rings, sling, and bi-pod for the price of a barrel alone.  Bought the H&R Ultra in .223.  It's far more accurate than my T/C Encore 22-250.  My NEF 30-06 and T/C TCR in 30-06 shoot comparably.  Both will outshoot my Encore with the 06 barrel.  The Encore just isn't that accurate, and is real expensive.  The only reason I keep it is that it makes a great Muzzleloader.  I like being able to hit a Moose, Caribou, or Bear out to 250 yards.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

There are a few ways to get a custom barrel .

1st is to have a regular barrel re-chambered or even re-bored & re-chambered to a non factory round .

2nd is to have a barrel stubbed into a cut down factory barrel ( the search feature will lead you to some info on this )

3rd is to have a under lug from a factory barrel cut off and then welded to a diffrent barrel ( like a Douglas or other brand )

The $$'s that you are willing to spend will determine if any of these are worth it to you

Stimpy, I have 15 H&R frames now, so 1 TC can't hurt can it? ???   Just made an offer on some land that has LOOOONG shots available for prairie poodles and yoodle dogs, so another long range round to go with the 257 Weatherby can't hurt. ;)  Just seemed like a good deal, and I NEED to get to the 100 mark on firearms. ;D  Can't let you and Tim have em all.  DP.

Able Ammo has 7 mm Rem Mag in sythetic stock, Handi SB2 listed for sale at $278.04.

.   I don't know if this is an error or not, however it also lists a .300 Win Mag and .338 Win Mag.  Can you tell us why one cannot get a Handi in 7mm Mag?  I'm curious.

The Handi-Mags were discontinued in January before final testing due to lack of presale orders by distirbutors, they were listed in the 2008 catalog, but never made it to production. They won't happen unless Remington decides to spend the money on endurance testing, but that's very unlikely. That was much to the disappointment of many here, I had a 7mm on order last November when they were first announced.  :'(

Yep, I'd get one if it was available.  I know they aren't that much faster than my 280's, but the 280's aren't all that much faster than the 7mm08 either.  That hasn't stopped me from haveing both and have owned a few 7 mags in the past, so have everything I need.  Sorry, I guess we kinda strayed from the original post.  My bad. ::)  DP.

You are right on about that Stimpy . The sale of my T/C 's funded almost all of my H&R's and I now have gotten ride of every thing but 1 camo stock from T/C and I could not be happier. If I was still buying T/C's I'd have about 5-6 when I now have 28 H&R's.Nuff said.Kurt
