Unpredictable Beasts
« on: July 16, 2008, 06:29:03 AM »
I guess this is what makes hog hunting so much fun, but over the past week and a half, I've been out three times.  First time, to the place I usually go.  Saw a few, but they didn't hang around long enough to get a shot at them, then just at dark drove up on a big boar.  Turned the jeep so my father-in-law could shoot him.  Dropped him right there at about 30 yards.  He never looked up.  Then I go out with a friend to his place and there are pigs everywhere, but these would just stand there and look at us.  Killed 7 that night.  Then, last night, took my daughter out to our usual spot.  Hogs everywhere, but they were always running.  We'd be driving along and I'd see something out of the corner of my eye and there'd be pigs running through the trees as fast as they could.  Only shot one last night.

The habits of feral hogs make no sense to me....never know when they're going to be moving, nor where they are going to be, nor whether or not they are going to be spooked easily.  Sure is fun though.

Second that opinion.Went out to check feeders last week.On the way back ,still very much daylight left ,I see four in the ditch.I stop the truck and they just stand there looking at me.Of course while trying to pull a .22 rifle out from behind the seat they run off into the brush. That's hogs.
