Buffalo Bore 44 magnum loads in the contender?
« on: July 16, 2008, 09:44:41 PM »
Has anyone tried the Buffalo Bore 44 Mag full SAAMI spec ammo in their contender as a pistol.

They don't list the Contender as a safe gun to use, but I assume that action on the Contender is definitely stronger than the revolver.

Any ideas?

Send them a email or give them a call. Most of the straight wall case ammo has lower pressure than the bottle necked. They should be ok but do check first. I load for mine so no more off the shelf for me ammo has gotten way to high.

If it is SAAMI-spec ammo then it will be fine - although it never hurts to check with the maker.  The .44 Mag is not like the .45LC, it has one maximum pressure rating rather than two or three.  The Contender was designed for .44 Mag pressures, although they are probably on the top end of acceptable.

To assume that the Contender is somehow "stronger" than a revolver would be incorrect.  A Ruger Super Redhawk will take higher-pressure .44 Mag loads than the Contender will without damage.
